Fronted by Phil Lesh and Bob Weir -- bass player and guitarist, respectively, of the Grateful Dead -- Furthur played a sold-out show Thursday night in Manchester, N.H.
The Nateva Music & Camping Festival is shaping up to be a jam-band magnet. Also performing will be moe., headlining on July 2, and the Flaming Lips, headlining on July 3. Keller Williams and Moonalice will join the husband-and-wife team Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, and additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
The festival will feature three stages and a variety of bands, ranging from jam bands to bluegrass. Organizers estimate that 15,000 people will attend. The festival will take place at a 100-plus-acre site and include such side entertainment as stilt walkers, magicians, jugglers and art installations.
Weekend passes, without camping, are priced at $229; with camping, $249. (Discounts are available if purchased early.) Additional acts and ticket information are expected to be announced today.
Furthur is the latest in a string of bands featuring former members of the Grateful Dead -- others include the Other Ones, RatDog and the Dead -- and is one of the hottest bands on the touring circuit. It just began touring with the new year, and is selling out concerts across the country.
Further is playing a lot of Grateful Dead classics with a band that also includes keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and percussionist Jay Lane, both of whom also play in RatDog; drummer Joe Russo; and guitarist John Kadlecik.
