WESTBROOK – Reading your June 20 editorial, “Time to grow up and take action on climate,” made me wonder how you came to the conclusions in the piece. I agree we need an energy policy, but it should have nothing to do with climate or CO2.

I know your papers have vast resources for research, but you seem to keep missing the fact that man-made global warming has been almost entirely discredited.

Unfortunately, along with the rest of the mainstream press, you (at least all but editorial writer M.D. Harmon) ignore the Climategate scandal of the e-mails urging “tricks” to “hide the decline” between contributors to the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change at the University of East Anglia pushing “anthropogenic global warming (AWG).”

A recent report claimed to “clear” them, but the investigators never interviewed the critics that were shut out of scientific journals by the UEA scientists themselves.

You also ignore the fact that Michael Mann of Penn State has never successfully defended his fraudulent “hockey stick” graph, which Al Gore relied on in his propaganda-laden movie. Mann’s graph left out the Medieval Warm Period (950-1250 A.D.) when it was warmer than today, and the “Little Ice Age” (1400-1850 A.D.), in order to show a thousand-year straight line with a dramatic uptick the last few decades.

You could check with Dr. Richard Lindzen at MIT about this, or Dr. Roy Spencer at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, or John Coleman, the meteorologist who founded The Weather Channel and labeled man-made global warming a hoax years ago.

All you have to do is follow the money. Those pushing AWG are receiving millions and it’s the government funding them.

Spain is bankrupt after funding so-called green energy. They have learned that their economy lost 2.2 jobs for every green job created and those green jobs cost hundreds of thousands of dollars each.

A tax on carbon would kill jobs and won’t do any good. With a little research you could learn that our atmosphere is carbon deficient. CO2 has almost nothing to do with climate change. Water vapor is far more prevelant and is a major “greenhouse gas,” trapping far more heat than CO2, which is a trace element in the atmosphere.

Its current level of 388 parts per million is one of the lowest levels in 600 million years. Only at present and during the Quaternary period have levels been below 400 ppm.

Exhaled breath has about 45,000 ppm of CO2, which is kind of nice. We now have 6 billion people exhaling this gas that is necessary to grow the food to feed them.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has determined that a 1 percent increase in CO2 boosts crop yields by 8 percent, translating into a 33 pound per acre increase per one ppm rise in CO2.

Those wishing to reduce CO2 should understand that plants are harmed at CO2 concentrations of 240 ppm and die at 160 ppm.

M.D. Harmon’s June 24 column (” ‘Green job’ subsidies don’t perform as advertised”) was a nice rebuttal to the editorial in the Telegram and the call for carbon taxes by columnist Ron Bancroft.

But the truth about the collapse of the man-made global warming theory should be front-page news, so we can get rid of the ridiculous idea that man can control the climate. All energy decisions should be made on what works and is cost-efficient.

Oil, coal and natural gas will be with us for decades. And remember that the wind doesn’t always blow. We will need backup systems for every watt of wind power, which means that the cost of construction will be double. Cost-effective wind and solar are decades away, so why kill the economy with carbon taxes that will have no effect on climate?

It’s time for your staff of investigative reporters to question the theory of man-made global warming and the idea of the federal Environmental Protection Agency labeling a gas that is necessary to all life a pollutant.

The information is out there. I would suggest that the publisher assign someone to do the research. The Sunday editorial ignored everything that has been coming out over the last few years.

You can find it in British and Spanish newspapers, but not ours. It’s time to be a leader, instead of a blind follower of left-wing environmental radicals.
