By ROBERT F. AMES
Upon reading the headline of "Our View" in the Jan. 22 Maine Sunday Telegram I had hoped that you would actually follow it up with a fair and equitable explanation of what it entails for our president and our governor to provide their views to their respective audiences ("Obama, LePage offer versions of us vs. them").
Unfortunately, as I got three-quarters through the editorial, you demonstrated your bias through your own words: "LePage aims his wrath at those for whom the bottom rung of the ladder is hopelessly out of reach."
That is a pitiful and unfair representation of the governor's efforts to rein in spending and reduce the burden on the taxpayers of Maine, for which he was elected, I might add. Your opaque version that Obama's intent "demonizes those who have climbed the ladder of success" is disingenuous.
You would have been better served with: "Obama's embrace of socialism accompanied with income equity, spurning capitalism."
By your own words, you have furthered the "divisive rhetoric" that you claim should be removed from their speeches. That is a pitiful and unfair representation of the governor's efforts to rein in spending and reduce the burden on the taxpayers of Maine, for which he was elected.
