I couldn't help but laugh at Jonah Goldberg's column in the Jan. 28 Portland Press Herald ("Obama presented loathsome vision of Spartan America").
Because President Obama had the audacity to extol the wonderful job the military did in getting Osama Bin Ladin, Goldberg claims Obama wants to turn America into a military North Korea.
This is the kind of hyperbole that you read and hear almost daily in today's politically alienating environment. Talk about grabbing at straws and headlines!
Goldberg does eventually say in his article that Obama was really only making a point that Congress needs to cast aside the petty partisanship and act together in getting things done for the country. But Goldberg even condemns that!
How awful that the president should ask such a thing. We all know that every president in history has tried to unite the country in order to move forward and rightfully so.
This doesn't mean, Mr. Goldberg, that we all have to don uniforms and march in step. It means we have to find a way to come together and fight for the same cause.
You might consider using that same philosophy in your articles, Mr. Goldberg. But thanks for the laugh.(E)very president in history has tried to unite the country in order to move forward and rightfully so.
