Letter to the editor: No medal? Bode Miller’s still not mediocre

I know that newspaper headlines need to be eye-catching, but they should not be misleading and inaccurate. The headline this morning referring to Bode Miller being “mired in mediocrity” is just that ("Commentary: Bode Miller mired in mediocrity," Feb. 10).

This is a man who is among the top in his sport and has been so for over a decade. Do we live in a world where this is considered a mediocre accomplishment?

I think of all the athletes who train hard yet do not make it to the Olympics. Mediocre?

Yes, it would have been extraordinary for Miller to medal in these Olympics, but certainly the counter to extraordinary is not mediocrity. Perhaps last Monday’s headline is mired in negativity.
