Letter to the editor: South Portland not ideal for proposed concert venue

The recent story about the proposed concert venue in South Portland has me agreeing it’s a great site (“Developer asks permission to build South Portland concert venue,” Feb. 18). It’s also a bad location.

Anyone who has viewed the Independence Day fireworks from Bug Light Park can attest to difficulty in departing the area. The area is a funnel!

Unlike the Eastern Prom in Portland, where numerous city streets defuse the vehicle and pedestrian traffic, South Portland offers basically one route of travel.

I’m sure the Ferry Village Neighborhood Association will weigh in on sound, parking and litter concerns that will most certainly be a product of the venue. This will undoubtedly also put a terrific strain on South Portland city services, as they try to cope with manpower and money shortfalls.
