Hannaford Charitable Foundation recently donated $10,000 to the Morrison Center in Scarborough.

The Morrison Center is a private, nonprofit organization that specializes in providing comprehensive services for children and adults with disabilities. The center plans to use the donation to improve emergency preparedness and safety equipment throughout the building.

SOUTH PORTLAND

United Way of York County recently awarded a one-year grant totaling $24,000 to Day One in South Portland.

The funds will be used to support the prevention and treatment of adolescent substance abuse in Southern Maine. Specifically, it will support Day One’s Natural Helpers of Maine program at Bonny Eagle High School and the James C. Harrod Residential Treatment Center in Hollis.

BRIDGEPORT, CT

The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced today that it has awarded $10,000 to Volunteers of America, which serves Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

The organization works to support its most vulnerable groups, including at-risk youth, the elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families and people with disabilities.
The donation will be used to establish a $2 million housing development fund to increase affordable housing in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Each month, the business is selecting a local, non-profit organization to support though the purchase of flowers. They design custom arrangements for each charity and a percentage of each purchase goes directly to the organization.

PORTLAND

Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger, recently made its largest, one-time donation ever in the amount of $22,000 to the Good Shepherd Food-Bank in memory of its founder, the late JoAnn Pike.

Pike began the Good Shepherd over 30 years ago and served as its executive director until February of 2004. Seven years ago this month, JoAnn passed away of cancer.

Three radio station, 99.9 AND 99.3 THE WOLF (WTHT-FM/WBQQ-FM) 107.5 FRANK FM (WFNK-FM), and 105.5 Frank FM (WBYA), raised $260,233 for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital through its annual Cares For Kid’s Radio-thon.

Since the start of the radio-thon, the stations have raised more than $1.2 million for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.
