The Raymond-Casco Historical Society is accepting sign-ups for a “Primitive Rug Hooking for Beginners” workshop, set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 15 with Janet Conner at the Raymond-Casco Historical Building on Route 302. Advance reservations of $30 are required and include the cost of a rug hooking kit.

Deadline for enrollment is Saturday.

SOUTH WATERBORO

Frank Wood, of DeWolfe & Wood in Alfred, will entertain and appraise antiques at 7 p.m. Thursday at the next Waterborough Historical Society meeting at the Grange Hall, 31 West Road.

JEFFERSON

Hidden Valley Nature Center will host the talk “Nature Journaling – Explore Your Feelings about the Natural World Around You,” from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday and again Sunday on Egypt Road.

Bring a backpack and writing utensils (pens and pencils). Journals will be provided.
Accompanied children are welcome; no experience necessary, just a natural curiousity.

Suggested donation is $10 for HVNC members and $15 for all others.

BRUNSWICK

Maine Prep’s eight-session, 16-hour SAT prep course begins Thursday at 22 Parkers Way.

Classes meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays through July 30.

The course, designed to teach students strategies to use in the math, writing and reading sections of the SAT, will prepare high school seniors for the Oct. 6 SAT and juniors for the PSAT. The teacher is Jack Mahoney.

Bowdoin College Museum of Art will be closed Tuesday through July 12 for maintenance on the roof of the Walker Art Building.

The museum will reopen July 13 with the exhibition “William Wegman: Hello Nature.”

This exhibition will include photographs of the artist’s famous Weimaraner dogs, as well as other works produced in or inspired by Maine.

Wegman will deliver a talk at 5 p.m. July 14, followed by a public reception.

WISCASSET

Laura Johnson, an associate curator for Historic New England, will give a talk Sunday titled “Everything Old is New Again: Revivals and Reproductions of Historic Textiles.”

The talk is at 3 p.m. in the Nickels-Sortwell House Barn.

The cost is $5 for members of Historic New England and $10 for nonmembers.

Reservations are recommended, but not required.

WEST PARIS

An open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. each Sunday through August at the Finnish-American Heritage Center, 8 Maple St.

Community members are welcome to browse the museum, library and gift shop.

The building is air conditioned and handicap accessible.

GEORGETOWN

The Georgetown Fire Department’s 37th annual auction will be held Saturday starting at 8 a.m. when the White Elephant tents open.

The preview and food booths open at 8:30 a.m. and auction bidding begins at 9 a.m.

To donate items for sale, call Dave at 371-2020 or Ron at 371-2127. To make a fine arts donation, call Sue at 449-8215. Donations need to be arranged by Tuesday so items can be listed in the program.

KENNEBUNK
