Military notes

Staff Sgt. Kyle Tanner of Portland, a platoon sergeant with Security Platoon, Headquarters and Service Company, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, was the range safety officer for a live-fire training exercise held recently on the flight deck aboard the USS Iwo Jima. The 24th MEU is currently deployed with the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group and is supporting  maritime and theater security efforts in the Navy’s 5th Fleet area of responsibility.

Katlyn Brewington of Lebanon was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army at the recent graduation ceremonies at University of Scranton, Pa. Brewington has been assigned to the Army Nurse Corps.

Maine Army National Guard soldiers from the 136th Engineer Company, 2nd Platoon, have been working at Camp Sunshine in Casco during their annual June training. Projects included building several bridges, installing culverts and working on several fence projects.

At Topsham, members of the 136th Engineer Company, 3rd Platoon, were building two community pavilions at the Cathance River Park.

And in Augusta, soldiers from the 262nd Engineer Company, 2nd Platoon, were renovating parts of the Nordic trails at the recreation area.

Command Sgt. Maj. Darrin Bohn from Army Forces Command visited soldiers from the 133rd Engineer Battalion at several project sites. Bohn is the highest ranking enlisted soldier to visit Maine.
