Maine Principals’ Association Principal’s Award is given to a high school senior for academic achievement and good citizenship. A luncheon for all the recipients will be held in Bangor in April. In addition, five attendees will receive a $1,000 scholarship in honor of former MPA Director Horace O. McGowan. Kennebunk High School: Hannah Rolland; Wells High School: Jesse Mills
Cheverus High School: The Portland Rotary Club has recognized senior Céile Day with its annual Youth Service Award. She is the daughter of Regina and Brian Day of Scarborough. Day also received a personal award of $500 to be used for college expenses and a donation was made in her name to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center where she has volunteered 378 hours of service. Day also participates in several other activities.
Sanford High School: Senior Taylor Sikes has received a scholarship to attend Berkeley College in New Jersey. The scholarship is renewable based on the student’s cumulative grade point average at the end of each academic year and continued enrollment as a full-time student.
Thornton Academy: two students have received Scholastic Art and Writing Awards which are offered to communities by more than 100 visual and literary-arts focused organizations across the country. Freshman Philip Polcare earned a Silver Key for his digital photograph “Dualflex Rewind” and honorable mention for his digital photograph “First Watch,” and senior Avery Kilber received honorable mention for his “Stippled Self-Portrait with Fruit Snacks” drawing.
