School opts to pay forward

Chris Ross of North Waterboro was selected by Sanford Junior High School students to be honored April 25 through its Project Reach/Jobs for Maine’s Graduates Pay It Forward Campaign.

An avid NASCAR fan, Ross was presented with four tickets to the July NASCAR event, to be held on the Main Grand Stand by the finish line stretch and the pit road at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Ross also was awarded two Magic Mile VIP passes that include NASCAR VIP Hospitality treatment.

Ross was nominated for the honor by the staff of the Cancer Care Center of York County in Sanford, where he is a patient.

More than 550 faculty and students helped to raise the $1,300 in funding through the Pay it Forward campaign.

Ross, a 2012 Massabesic High School graduate, also was presented with a set of professional cooking knives to support his other dream of becoming a chef.

He is a student at the New England Culinary Institute in Montpellier, Vt.
