McMahon wins geography bee
Brian McMahon, a seventh-grader at Wells Junior High School, emerged the winner of the school's annual geography bee.
The 40-minute bee held earlier this month was attended by the entire student body, staff and parents.
Tamar Cimenian, an eighth-grader and last year's winner, finished second. Another eighth-grader, Olivia Holdsworth, came in third.
Cimenian will now be McMahon's backup in the state phase of this national contest sponsored by the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C.
The other finalists included Matty Chase, Zach Villemaire, John DeAngeles, Rio Fitch, Courtland Austin, Patrick Dinmore and Julia Nixon.
