SCARBOROUGH

Walk for kids with cancer

Registrations for teams and individuals are being accepted for the 27th Annual Maine Children's Cancer Program's Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday at Maine Medical Center's Scarborough Campus.

The event benefits the 50-60 children in Maine that are newly diagnosed each year with childhood cancer.

All funds raised from the walk go to cover the expenses not covered by insurance, such as social workers and other critical programs and services that help children and families.

The walk is the program's largest fundraiser.

Since it began in 1986, the walk has raised nearly $2.5 million. All of the funds raised stay in Maine. All walkers who raise $50 or more get a T-shirt. Other walks are happening the same day in Augusta, Lewiston/Auburn, Topsham/Brunswick and Waterville.

To register as an individual, a team or to make a contribution, visit mccp.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1073920, or call 662-6274 for more information.

Correction: Because of a news assistant’s error, the Rick Charette concert listing contained inaccurate details. Charette will perform at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Freeport Theater of Awesome.
