The Greater Portland YMCA is holding a free Healthy Kids Day 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the YMCA.

Citizens Project events

Students at Lyman Moore Middle School will present projects on community issues ranging from eating disorders to elderly drivers and texting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at four locations: the State of Maine room and City Council Chambers at Portland City Hall and in two rooms at the Portland Public Library.

City officials, school administrators, media representatives and other professionals will judge the students’ work. The groups with the winning entries will represent the school at Maine’s Project Citizen showcase on May 20 at the State House in Augusta.

 

St. Lawrence clothing swap

A clothing swap to benefit St. Lawrence Arts Center will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at 76 Congress St.

Organizers will accept men’s, women’s and children’s clothing as well as accessories. Anyone who arrives with items to swap is able to take home anything they want.

No Labels political event

More than 150 people including state elected officials and former independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler are expected to attend the first organized meeting of the group No Labels, a movement of Republicans, Democrats and Independents working to address the state of partisan politics in Maine.

Stiletto Challenge in May

The 2nd Annual Stiletto Challenge will be held at 5 p.m. May 19 at DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant on Commercial Street, featuring three 100-yard dashes: a men’s and women’s race, and a team challenge. Participants are required to compete wearing three-inch stiletto heels.

Proceeds of the event will benefit Lift Up Foundation, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and the PLGA Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping children who are struggling with brain tumors.

College planning workshops

‘Lost in Lexicon’ puzzles

Pendred Noyce, an author of children’s books, will celebrate the release of her fantasy adventure, “Lost in Lexicon,” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Portland Public Library, 5 Monument Square. The puzzle-playing program is for kids ages 8 to 14 years old.

The event is being held to raise money for Raising Readers, a Maine literacy organization. The cost is free but a donation is suggested.
