Bank pledges $6,000 to library

Saco & Biddeford Savings has pledged $6,000 to the Scarborough Library to establish a 3M Cloud Library.

Scarborough is the only library in Maine to offer the 3M Cloud Library and is one of the first 100 to offer it in the United States.

The system delivers new standards of technology and learning to library card holders in the form of eBooks, remote renting and purchasing.

Some 450 ebook titles are available with new selection being added all the time.

The 3M Cloud Library was launched at Scarborough Library six months ago. Since the launch, hundreds of eBooks, including best sellers, have been downloaded in seconds to compatible devices and 3M eReaders available for checkout.

FALMOUTH

Visiting nurses receive $5,520 grant

HomeHealth Visiting Nurses was recently awarded a one-year grant from United Way of York County totaling $5,520.

The funds will be used to provide home health services for adults and senior who lack insurance or the resources to pay for necessary care.

This past year, HHVN provided care to more than 22,000 patients throughout York, Cumberland and southern Oxford counties.

Those services enhance independence and quality of life for elders facing an acute illness, adults recovering from surgery and children coping with the challenges of a life-limiting illness.

Through a state funded grant, HHVN provides education, nursing care and support to pregnant women, newborn infants and children with special needs.

In delivering this care, HHVN provided over $94,300 of charity care and $237,800 of care not reimbursed by government programs in York County.
