School Notes

Private Schools Honor Roll

Loomis Chaffee School, Windsor, Conn.: High Honors: Douglas Gorman, a senior from Saco and Molly Strabley, a senior from Yarmouth; Honors: Colin Merrill, a sophomore from Portland.

Westminster School, Simsbury, Conn.: Honors: Katherine Pate, a junior of Saco.

Cheverus High School

Twelve students earned honors on the 2013 National Latin Exam:

Latin II - cum laude: Phillip Hawley, freshman, Hollis Center; Jesscia Willerson, freshman, Falmouth;

magna cum laude: Eva Niedermeyer, senior, Buxton; Zoe LeBlanc, sophomore, Lyman; Jack Olore, freshman, Scarborough; Daniel Mazza, freshman, South Portland;

Latin III - cum laude: Gillian Coates, junior, South Portland; Keegan Thomas, sophomore, Standish; Jonathan Ruterbories, junior, Falmouth; Camron Chea, sophomore, Portland; Julia Rodrigues, sophomore, Westbrook; Margaret Meserve, sophomore, Falmouth.

Seniors Elise Coleman and Michael Orne were recently honored by the Southern Maine Activities Association at its third annual Citizenship Award Banquet. The honors were given to high school athletes for their citizenship in the SMAA's conference area of Cumberland and York Counties.

The Cheverus Jazz Singers received the third place in their division, and the a capella jazz group, Soulstice, was awarded second place as well as a Gold Award for excellence in their separate division at the Maine High School State Vocal Jazz Festival held in Ellsworth. Four students were recognized as outstanding soloists for the entire festival: Hannah Johnston, junior, South Portland; Erin Fitzpatrick, senior, Yarmouth; Ian Lawson, senior, Gorham; Christian Cilley, junior, Portland. 

Wells High School

Junior Madilin "Maddy" Pagliarulo received a Silver Key award in the Digital Media category of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for 2013.
