AUGUSTA — Gay marriage opponents are speaking out against a referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot seeking to legalize same-sex marriage in Maine.
The No Special Rights political action committee was holding a rally Monday at the State House in Augusta in favor of traditional marriage.
Spokesman Paul Madore says the rally is an attempt to inform Maine voters on what he calls "the real dangers and the pure insanity" of gay marriage.
Madore says speakers at the event include directors from three out-of-state organizations that oppose same-sex marriage.
This is the second time in four years that Mainers will vote on gay marriage.
Voters in 2009 overturned a Maine law passed by the Legislature earlier in the year allowing same-sex marriage.
