AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage will deliver his State of the State address Feb. 4, his administration said in a press release.

The governor will speak in a joint assembly of the Legislature in the House of Representatives. According to the press release, the address will highlight LePage’s policy priorities including economic issues, electricity costs, infrastructure improvements and welfare reform.

The governor has made welfare reform, and welfare fraud in particular, a priority. The issue is expected to be key in his re-election campaign.

The governor also is expected to champion the declining unemployment rate that has tracked with slow but steady improvements in the state and national economies.

“Today, we have less debt on the books, more people working and a stronger economy than we have experienced in years,” LePage said in a prepared statement. “The State of the State is an opportunity for me to share with Mainers a vision for making Maine an even better place for our families to live, work and play. Much has been accomplished in three years, but there is more work to focus to ensure a brighter future for our great state and people.”

The press statement included a reference to a “major business investment” initiative to create “hundreds of new jobs for Mainers.”

The administration has not released any additional information about the initiative.

The address will begin at 7 p.m.
