PORTLAND – Candidates running for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday reported raising more than $400,000 from July through September.

In quarterly finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission, Democratic state Sen. Emily Cain, of Orono, reported raising more than $75,000 for the quarter, while fellow Democratic Sen. Troy Jackson, of Allagash, raised nearly $72,000. Alden Smith of Sangerville hadn’t filed by late Tuesday afternoon.

On the Republican side, former state treasurer Bruce Poliquin reported raising nearly $222,000, and former state Sen. Kevin Raye of Perry raised $90,000. Former Navy officer Blaine Richardson of Belfast raised a little more than $1,000.

The seat is now held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, who is running for governor in next year’s election.

Of the $222,000 raised by Poliquin, $170,000 came from individuals while he contributed about $52,000 to his own campaign. Raye raised all his money in 17 days after officially entering the race in September, said Raye spokeswoman Christee-Lee McNally.

Cain, who declared her candidacy in June, has now raised more than $140,000 for the two quarterly reports she has filed. Jackson reported that 92 percent of his individual contributions came from Maine.
