U.S. Senate candidate Angus King has landed a new set of endorsements.
The groups endorsing King include the Maine Credit Union League, New England Regional Council of Carpenters, American Nurse Association – Maine, National Wildlife Federation, and the Professional Firefighters of Maine. The Sierra Club announced its endorsement earlier this week.
The King campaign is holding a news conference at noon in Portland to formally announce the new support.
John Martell, president of the Professional Firefighters of Maine, said in a statement released by the campaign that firefighters like King's willingness to reach across party lines.
"Maine needs a senator who will be an independent voice for its people and have the courage to make the right choice," Martell said.
King is the independent frontrunner in the race to replace Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine. A new poll released today shows King continues to have a substantial lead, although anti-King advertising has cut into the margin.
