    Joshua Shea, 36
    Editor/Publisher
    Lewiston Auburn Magazine

There are several reasons for Joshua Shea’s selection for a MaineToday Media Forty Under 40 award. As his nominator, Chip Morrison, president of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, notes:

“Josh created a spectacular, fullcolor local magazine, Lewiston Auburn Magazine, which highlights the dramatic transformation of the Lewiston/Auburn area. The magazine began publishing in April 2010 as a bi-monthly 48-page issue. It currently is published 10 issues per year – and each issue is 96 pages.”

The magazine, with a cover price of $3.95 and a circulation of 5,500 to 6,500 copies, is produced by LA Publishing – Shea’s title is publisher – and also lives online, at www. la-mag.org.

“One year after starting the magazine, Josh also started the Lewiston Auburn Film Festival, which has proved to be an incredible event for the communities.” Launched as a one-day event, the festival grew to three days in its second year, and was held this spring April 13-15 at various participating locations. Submissions for the 2013 festival will be accepted in the fall. See www.lafilmfestival. org for more information.)

And, Morrison says, Shea last fall was “elected as at-large member to Auburn City Council as leading vote-getter, even though he had never before run for political office.” Shea’s roots in the twin cities go deep. He is a native of Lewiston who now lives in Auburn with his wife and two children, and as the city Web site notes, his parents taught in the Auburn school system for almost 75 years combined.

“Josh is a significant young leader in our communities, pushing for quality collaborations between Lewiston and Auburn and for major improvements in local education,” Morrison summarizes. Shea is also a board member of the Lewiston Education Fund and Great Falls Balloon Festival and the Lewiston Auburn Economic Growth Council.
