“Conscience With A View,†is the motto of Justin McIver’s Main Eco Homes, which builds “custom homes that support healthier living, are more energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and less expensive to maintain,†in the words of the company’s mission statement.
Or, in the words of McIver’s MaineToday Media Forty Under 40 award nominator, Deanna Miller, the firm “demonstrates that people can live in comfort and still not create a negative impact on the environment.
“Here in Bridgton, a good view of a lake or of Mount Washington is of great importance to people seeking a home,†she continues. “This could mean leveling hilltops, clearcutting trees, and other practices that despoil and threaten the environment†– that is, exactly what Maine Eco is committed not to do.
“His company does not provide only a building, it promotes a philosophy. He also acts as a model of responsible home construction and home ownership.â€Â
Miller, a Bridgton homeowner, got to know McIver through the family business, D.M. Electric, and at town economic development meetings. “He’s very sincere about green construction, the ecological aspect. He works so that the environment is protected, and people’s needs and comfort are provided for.â€Â
McIver has been building homes since 2005, and at present has six residential projects underway, in Bridgton, Denmark, Poland and Fryeburg, and recently finished an energy-efficient commercial building on Depot Street in Bridgton.
McIver attended Fryeburg Academy, where he was a standout in basketball (he holds the school’s career 3-pointer record) and was named to the McDonald’s Senior All-Star Team. He went on to Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H., and earned a degree in business administration. He returned to Maine to work in the family business, D.M. Electric, before founding Main Eco Homes.
