    Highest Achieving Graduates

    Eric Paul Beaudette of Hollis, NH
    Eric Paul Beaudette graduated from Hebron Academy (Hebron, ME) on May 26, 2012. He was a High Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. Beaudette was the recipient of the Hebron Academy Cup, given to the member of the senior class who, in the opinion of the faculty, represents the finest spirit of scholastic effort, who has in athletic competition shown a high degree of excellence, and who has in personal relations with the school shown a commendable spirit of devotion, high ideals, friendliness, endeavor and responsibility.. He was a dorm proctor, Northern New England Lacrosse League (NNELL) All-Academic Player of the Year in 2012, member of Hebron's GSTA-The Bridge, and an editor of The Hebronian (student-run newspaper). Beaudette completed his independent study in fashion design and will pursue the field at Cornell University's Fiber Science and Design program (Ithaca, NY) this fall. He is the son of Robin and Steve Beaudette of Hollis.

    Nathaniel Stephenson Blackford of Edgecomb, ME
    Blackford was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. Blackford received the Risman Honor Award, given to a member of the Senior Class for his or her diligence of academic accomplishment, determination in athletic endeavor, and outstanding good character. Blackford was also the recipient of Senior Scholarship Prize and won Academic Excellence Awards in French and Science. He was a dorm proctor, member of the junior varsity soccer and track teams, and contributor to the school's Maine State Championship math team. In 2011, Blackford received the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal for his accomplishments in mathematics and science and the Williams College Book Award in recognition of his leadership and contributions to the extracurricular life of the school. Blackford will be attending Middlebury College (Middlebury, VT) this fall and is the son of Susie Stephenson and Tom Blackford.

    Sung Hyun "Ian" Choi of Bucheon, South Korea
    Choi was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. Choi, a dorm proctor, partook in the yearly Malawi service trip, sang in Hebron's praise band, and was a member of the Heebeegeebees, Hebron's select a cappella ensemble. He played on the junior varsity tennis and soccer teams. In 2011, he received the Colby Book Award, given to an outstanding member of the junior class who, through a combination of superior academic achievement, social conscience and service, is a promising example of how an educated person will contribute to the world economy. Choi was also awarded the Dr. Louis Friedman Mathematics Prize in 2011, recognizing excellence in Mathematics and awarded to the winner of a special examination. Choi will be attending Washington University in St. Louis (St. Louis, MO) this fall and is the son of Hee Ryung Byun and Jin Kyo Choi.

    Matthew David Fensore of New Gloucester, ME
    Fensore was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. Fensore received the Outdoor Leadership Prize for his "profound concern for the natural environment" in 2012 and 2011. An avid thespian and movie producer, Fensore participated in Hebron's musicals such as "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," (2010) "Jesus Christ Superstar," (2011) and "Working" (2012) and made several short films. Fensore will be attending Hampshire College (Amherst, MA) this fall and is the son of Carolyn and David Fensore.

    Rebekah Mae Jett of Norway, ME
    Jett was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. She was recipient of the Lorimer Scholarship Prize which honors a student for her commitment to liberal arts and potential for theater. Jett was a member of the varsity field hockey and softball teams and was an accomplished sculptor who joined Hebron Academy in elementary school. Jett will be attending Columbia University (New York, NY) this fall and is the daughter of Dr. Laura Jett.

    Soo Yeon "Anna" Kim of Seoul, South Korea
    Kim was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. She was recipient of the Bernat Memorial Award and Academic Excellence Award in History. Kim was editor-in-chief of The Hebronian, Hebron's student-run newspaper, and a member of the varsity tennis team. A talented photographer, Kim's work was recently recognized in a local competition. She captained the MAISAD Championship varsity tennis team and junior varsity soccer team, sang in chorus, and was a dedicated participant in Hebron's weekly community service program. Kim won the David A. Lewis '69 Award for her contributions in tennis. In 2011, she received the L. Edward Willard Prize in English. Kim will be attending Boston College (Newton, MA) this fall and is the daughter of Jae Yeon Ha and Sung Mook Kim.

    Dong Hee Lee of Seoul, South Korea
    Lee was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. He was recipient of the Milton G. Wheeler Good Fellowship Award, recognizing high standards of citizenship and integrity and was co-recipient of the Academic Excellence Award in Music. A member of Hebron's Maine State Championship math team, Lee was also a dorm proctor, talented violinist, and member of Hebron's orchestra and string quartet. He performed with the praise band and participated in Hebron's Malawi service trip. In 2011, Lee received the Dartmouth Book Award. Lee will be attending the University of California at San Diego (San Diego, CA) this fall and is the son of Moon Ju Lee and Sang Chul Lee.

    Maxwell Asa Middleton of Hebron, ME
    Middleton was a High Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. Middleton was recipient of the Pheminster Award for outstanding leadership and responsibility and the Award for Excellence in Drama. Senior class president, dorm proctor, Middle School Mentor, an editor of The Hebronian (student-run newspaper), member of Hebron's GSTA-The Bridge (Hebron's gay-straight ally group) and HeeBeeGeeBees (Hebron's select a cappella ensemble) and dedicated thespian, Middleton was a major presence in Hebron's drama program, starring in musicals "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," (2010) "Jesus Christ Superstar," (2011) and "Working" (2012). He was also cast in off-campus productions with Auburn's Community Little Theater and Oxford Hills Music and Performing Arts Association (OHMPAA). In 2011, Middleton received the Harvard Book Prize. Middleton will be attending Bowdoin College (Brunswick, ME) this fall and is the son of Julie and Steve Middleton.

    Alicia Wisteria Schultz of Palos Verdes, CA
    Schultz was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. She was recipient of the Academic Excellence Award in English and in Religion & Ethics. Schultz was a vocal member of Hebron's GSTA-The Bridge (Hebron's gay-straight ally group) and participated in chorus and drama with roles in productions such as "Jesus Christ Superstar" (2011). A class officer, she also played on the junior varsity soccer team and undefeated girls' junior varsity tennis team. Schultz will be attending the University of St. Andrews (Scotland) this fall and is the daughter of James Schultz.

    Abigail Ellen Small of Swanville, ME
    Small was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. She was recipient of the Ernest Sherman Award for her dedication to the Academy and personal concern for fellow students and the community. In 2011, Small was a Cum Laude student for Level 3 Latin from the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League. A dorm proctor, Small was a member of the junior varsity soccer team and undefeated girls' junior varsity tennis team. She was an important contributor to Hebron's GSTA-The Bridge (Hebron's gay-straight ally group). Small, who sang in Hebron's chorus, plans to attend medical school. Small will be attending Wheaton College (Norton, MA) this fall and is the daughter of David and Julia Small and Dianne Small-Trull.

    Allyson Janet Strachan of Hebron, ME
    Strachan was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. She received the Charles and Amy Dwyer Memorial Award for her contributions as an outstanding scholar-athlete and was recipient of the Academic Excellence Award in Spanish. A dorm proctor and singer, Strachan captained the varsity field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse teams and was a member of the HeeBeeGeeBees, Hebron's select a cappella ensemble. Strachan was MVP of the field hockey team and co-MVP of the varsity lacrosse team, for which she received All-Conference Honors. She was Academic-All League for the 2011-2012 school year. In 2011 she received the Harvard Book Prize. Strachan will be attending the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis, MD) this fall and is the daughter of Andrew and Sharon Strachan.

    Harry Deenan Trask of Norway, ME
    Trask was a High Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. He was recipient of the Regis A. Lepage Scholarship Prize, given to a local student who embodies the belief that strength comes through education. Trask was a dorm proctor and dedicated thespian who held roles in Hebron productions of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," (2010) "Jesus Christ Superstar," (2011) and "Working" (2012). In 2011 Trask was presented with the Middlebury Book Award for his leadership and academic accomplishments at the school. He was also a member of the HeeBeeGeeBees, Hebron's select a cappella ensemble, and the track team. Trask will be attending Bard College (Annandale-on-Hudson, NY) this fall and is the son of Eliza Beghé and Jason Trask.

    Mengdong Zhuang of Wenzhou, China
    Zhuang was a Highest Honors scholar elected to Cum Laude Society. Zhuang was a talented photography student who took first, second and third in a local photography competition this past spring. She was a member of Hebron's orchestra and undefeated girls' junior varsity tennis team. Zhuang will be attending the University of Richmond (Richmond, VA) this fall and is the daughter of Juan Tang and Junxin Zhuang.

    Senior Class Awards The HEBRON ACADEMY CUP is given to that member of the Senior Class who in the opinion of the faculty represents the finest spirit of scholastic effort, who has in athletic competition shown a high degree of excellence, and who has in personal relations with the school shown a commendable spirit of devotion, high ideals, friendliness, endeavor and responsibility which qualities Hebron Academy holds in the highest esteem. In 2012, the Hebron Cup is awarded to Eric Paul Beaudette.

    The RISMAN HONOR AWARD is given by George Broudy of the class of 1929 to honor his Hebron roommate, Edward R. Risman of the Class of 1930, to distinguish a member of the Senior Class whose diligence of academic accomplishment, determination in athletic endeavor and outstanding good character merited recognition. In 2012 awarded to Nathaniel Stephenson Blackford.

    The PHEMISTER AWARD is a book from the funds given in memory of David Kent Phemister II, President of the Class of 1962, by his friends and classmates to honor a Senior who has shown outstanding leadership and responsibility. In 2012 awarded to Maxwell Asa Middleton.

    The MILTON G. WHEELER GOOD FELLOWSHIP AWARD is given by George Broudy of the Class of 1929 to honor Milton G. Wheeler of the Class of 1927 in order to recognize a member of the Senior Class for highest standards of citizenship and integrity. In 2012 awarded to Dong Hee Lee.

    The CHARLES AND AMY DWYER MEMORIAL AWARD honors the memory of Charles C. and Amy W. Dwyer who were members of the Hebron Academy community for more than half a century; he as a student, teacher, coach, and she as tutor, counselor and librarian. The prize is awarded to an outstanding scholar-athlete, and this year the 2012 recipient is Allyson Janet Strachan.

    The ERNEST SHERMAN AWARD is presented in memory of "Jack" Sherman, for many years chef-steward of Hebron Academy, to a member of the Hebron Academy community who best exhibits dedication to Hebron Academy and personal concern for fellow students and the community. In 2012 awarded to Abigail Ellen Small.

    The EDWARD TATE II GREEN KEY AWARD is a book to be given in the name of Edward Henry Tate II of the Class of 1957 to honor a member of the Senior Class for his/her marked qualities of humanity. In 2012 awarded to Carmine Patrick Caruso.

    The LEYDEN AWARD honors a senior who has grown as a person and as a student, who has overcome obstacles and whose concern for others and for the Hebron community exemplifies the care and contributions of the Leyden family for more than thirty years. In 2012 awarded to Tavis Paul Gibbons.

    The ATHLETIC AWARD is given for superior performance in the field of athletics, for outstanding cooperation, leadership and fair play. In 2012 awarded to Lawrence Allen Taylor IV.

    The BESSIE FENN AWARD is given for superior performance in the field of athletics, outstanding cooperation, leadership and fair play. In 2012 awarded to Chelsea Regina Boucher.

    The REED AWARDS are given to an outstanding young man and woman in recognition of fine spirit, improvement in skill, devotion to athletic teams, and an unselfish determination to contribute to Hebron's athletic success. In 2012, the recipients are Sara Lindsey Grover and Pier-Michel Lapointe.

    The REGIS A. LEPAGE SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE is given by Lepage Bakeries of Auburn, Maine in honor of Regis A. Lepage, a generous supporter of post-Secondary study for young people in the belief that strength comes through education. The prize is awarded to a student at Hebron Academy from the surrounding area. Awarded in 2012 to Harry Deenan Trask.

    The LORIMER SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE is given in memory of Louise Pinkham Lorimer, descendant of William Barrows, innovative woman of theater and film, advocate for the environment, and devoted summer resident of the Hebron community. The prize honors a young woman pursuing her education in theater or environmental sciences. In 2012, awarded to Rebekah Mae Jett.

    The BERNAT MEMORIAL AWARD is a book given by the parents of Emile Robert Bernat of the Class of 1960 to be awarded annually to a Senior for further studies in the humanities. The 2012 recipient is Soo Yeon Kim.

    The TYLER / GRANDSMAISON SCHOLARSHIP, supporting early success in college is underwritten by the MELMAC Foundation and is given to a graduating senior from the State of Maine who has overcome obstacles and has made a positive contribution to the school community and extra-curricular activities, has demonstrated a commitment to public service and has the potential to make a difference in the world. Awarded in 2012 to Jade Virginia Bermudez.

    The AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN DRAMA distinguishes a student whose attainment in Hebron's theatrical productions has merited recognition. Awarded this year to Maxwell Asa Middleton.

    The OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP PRIZE is presented to a graduating student who exhibits kindness to others, self-respect and self-sufficiency, the ability to make and execute difficult decisions, and a profound concern for the natural environment. This year the recipient is Matthew David Fensore.

    The SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE is given for outstanding excellence in general scholarship for the Class of 2012. Awarded to Nathaniel Stephenson Blackford.
