Top Seniors

Valedictorian Lauren Pierce -- Lauren is the daughter of Susan and Robert Pierce of Alfred. Lauren founded and competed with the Debate team 9-12th grade, as well as founded the Book Discussion Club. She participated on the math team 10th-12th grade as well as the Student Leadership Team. Lauren participated in varsity cross country, swimming, and track and field all four years of high school and was captain at all three her senior year. She is a member of the National Honor Society her junior and senior years. Lauren's awards include National Merit Scholar, Thomas J. Watson Scholar, and AP Scholar. She volunteers weekly at Parsons Memorial Library. Lauren attended Girl's State, Maine Youth Leadership, and DA for a day. She will be attending Brown University to study classics and philosophy.


Salutatorian Hannah Hopkins -- Hannah is the daughter of Joanne and Scott Hopkins of Shapleigh. Hannah participated in varsity swimming and has been the class secretary for all four years of high school. She is President of National Honor Society. She was in Chamber Singers and Concert Band in her senior year and Saxophone Quartet her junior and senior years. She has received a number of awards including AP Scholar, All State Concert Band, All New England Concert Band, and is a National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine participant. Other awards include District 1 Honors Concert Band, and Phi Beta Kappa Award. She will be attending Duke University for neuroscience in the fall. From there she plans to go on to medical school for neurology and join Doctor's Without Borders.


Honor Essayist Taylor Kirker -- Taylor is the daughter of Lea and Kirk Lehman of Waterboro. Taylor participated in soccer and softball all four years of high school and basketball her freshman and sophomore year. She is currently the National Honor Society Vice President and was a Girl's State Delegate her junior year. She volunteers for the Bon Appetite soup kitchen, Massabesic Athletics, and Waterboro Parks and Recreation. Taylor received the Maine Principals Association Award. She plans to attend Skidmore College for exercise science and psychology.


Carolyn Allaire -- Carolyn is the daughter of Kim and Norman Allaire of Limerick. She helped raise money for Haiti with the Pepper Club in Portland and received All Academic Award for sports. Carolyn was selected for Girl's state in 2010. She played four years of soccer and track, and one year of indoor track. Carolyn plans to study at the Southern Maine Community College after graduation.


Spencer Bourassa -- Spencer is the son of Tracey Bourassa of Lyman and Paul Bourassa of Massachusetts. Spencer participated in football and baseball and is a member of the National Honor Society. Spencer plans to go to the Universal Technical Institute to study to be an Automotive Technician for Mercedes- Benz.


Jakob Brooks -- Jakob is the son of Lori and Ronald Brooks of Waterboro. He completed 100 hours of community service while maintaining honor roll. He was on Student Council and was also a captain of the cross-country team. Jakob plans to study pre-law at West Point.


Zachary Cost -- Zachary is the son of Deborah Cost of Waterboro. He's played lacrosse and was a member of the cross country team for four years. Zachary played basketball his freshmen and sophomore years and was a member of the swim team his junior and senior years. He also enjoys snowboarding. He plans on attending Boston University for pre-med and neurology.


Debra Egan -- Debra is the daughter of Betty and David Egan. She is a member of the National Honor Society. She was in Chamber Singers all four years as part of the honors choir. Debra was principle bassoonist in the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble, and in the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra. She was second bassoon in the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra at the New England conservatory of music. Debra will be touring the Czech Republic and Austria with the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra after graduation. As a senior, she volunteered in the life skills room at the middle school. Debra, as a junior, also aired on NPR's "From the Top" which is a radio show where young classical musicians play. As a sophomore and junior, she was a principle bassoonist in the Maine Allstate Orchestra. Debra plans on attending Boston University as a bassoon performance major. She hopes to be a bassoonist in major symphony orchestras and teach bassoon at a college level.


Katelin Emerson -- Katelin is the daughter of Caroline and Mark Emerson of Lyman. When she is not busy studying for AP and Honors classes, Katelin volunteers at her local church. Next year, she plans on attending UMaine for Veterinary Technology to become a vet technician.


Christopher Gahm -- Christopher is the son of Robin Tucker-Gahm and Jeffery Gahm of Alfred. He was a part of the Leadership Team and the National Honor Society. He also participated in four years of basketball, and one year of tennis and received the MVP award for both. Christopher also played two years of varsity baseball. He was also part of drama club for the "Giver" and was the Vice President for the senior class. For his community, he participated in the Hondorus food run and coached and ran a youth basketball clinic. Christopher plans to attend Roger Williams University for Business Management/ Marketing and plans to play basketball while there.


 Katherine LaGassie -- Katherine is the daughter of Elaina and Brian LaGassie of Lyman. Katherine is a National Honor Society member as well as a Principal Advisory Committee member. She is involved in Girl Scouts, the Mural Club, YMCA Leaders Club, and YAADA. She also is a volunteer for Making Strides for Breast Cancer, and the University of Maine Cooperative Extensions Kids Can Grow. She has received the Presidential Volunteer Award and the ten-year award in Girl Scouts. She also earned a Reiki Master Certification, Qi Gong Facilitator Certification, and IET Level 1 and 2 Certification. Katherine plans to attend St. Joseph's College pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in biology/pre-med. Once she graduates she plans to go to graduate school to complete a Master's in either Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine or Veterinary Medicine. In her spare time she will continue to write with plans to publish several books.


Peter LePage -- Peter is the son of Patti and Ed LePage of Limerick. Peter has participated in various varsity sports including cross country, wrestling, and track and field. He has helped with fundraisers and volunteers with the youth and middle school wrestling tournaments and camps. Peter was awarded SMAA Student Athlete Summit, SMAA All Conference Team, SMAA All Academic Team, and SMAA Citizenship Award. Peter plans to attend the University of New England to study pharmaceutical sciences.


Karissa McCoy -- Karissa is the daughter of Sharlene Howe and Gerald McCoy Jr. of Waterboro. Karissa participated in field hockey and softball. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Leo Club. She plans to attend Castleton State College in Vermont, majoring in athletic training.


Joshua McDowell -- Joshua is the son of Darla and Deylan McDowell in Shapleigh. He has participated in concert band and jazz band in high school. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is associated with the Shapleigh Baptist Youth Grove. Joshua also went of a special missionary trip to Africa in August 2010. Joshua is a member of NJROTC  and received  several awards. He was NS-4 Oustanding Cadet and Honor Cadet. Joshua was also awarded the Scottish Rite Masonic Award and the American Veterans Award. He plans to go to college at Norwich University with a special NROTC scholarship he was awarded, and will also be commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy. Joshua has also made it his goal to earn his private pilot's license.


Eric Medici -- Eric is the son of Diane and John Medici of Limerick. He's a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council, and is a student school board representative. He has done community service at Goodall Hospital. Eric was on the tennis All Academic team. He is also a Dirigo Boys State Delegate. Eric plans on attending Davidson College and then furthering his education at medical school.


Elizabeth Mulcahy -- Elizabeth Mulcahy, daughter of Susan and Christopher Mulcahy, has participated in the soccer program all four years of her high school career. She earned the Coach's Award as a freshman, was elected captain of the Varsity squad her senior year and was selected for the SMAA All Academic Team. She has logged over 200 hours of community service. Activities have included being a junior counselor at Camp Laughing Loon, a Pee Wee soccer coach for he Shapleigh Recreation Department, and the boy's basketball score keeper. Having earned High Honors all four years, she has been a member of the National Honor Society for the last two years and selected as a Girls' State Representative. A participant in the Principal's Leadership Academy, she received additional recognition in her selection to SMAA Student Athlete Conference. Elizabeth is recipient of the Stonehill College Book Award for citizenship, community service, and scholarship. Elizabeth will be attending Stonehill College in the fall.


Shannon Murray -- Shannon is the daughter of Sari and Charles Murray of North Waterboro. She has served as Vice President of the Leo's Club for a year and has been a member of National Honor Society for two years. In addition to cheering and playing tennis, she's been solving equations for the math team for three years. Shannon also took three college classes at YCCC while attending high school. She's received an Academic Achievement Award for drafting and a Silver Seal Award for completing 50 hours of community service last year through Leo's. She will be attending Wentworth Institute of Technology in the fall for Architecture and will go for her Master's Degree. Shannon hopes to study abroad in Germany or Switzerland.


Delani O'Connell -- Delani is the daughter of Denise and Edward O'Connell of Lyman. She was involved in softball and was also a captain. She was awarded the Coach's Award on Varsity during her junior year. She has volunteered at the Equest Therapeutic Riding Center and Joy Dale Morgan Horse Care Camp. Delani was a member of the Massabesic Leo Club, where she received the Youth Recognition Award. She is Treasurer of National Honor Society and a member of the Math Team. She was also a part of the Upward Bound College Prep Program. Delani plans to go to the University of Vermont for Animal Science (pre-vet).

Lindsey Pride -- Lindsey is the daughter of Denice and John Pride of Alfred. She has participated in Odyssey of the Mind for six years and of those years; she's helped bring the team to four state championships. In addition, Lindsey has been a member of the National Honor Society for her Junior and Senior year. She plans on attending the Rochester Institute of Technology for chemical engineering in the fall.


Lindsey Ring -- Lindsey is the daughter of Beth and Dean Ring of West Newfield. Lindsey was the MVP of the girl's varsity tennis team. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Lindsey is a member of the Massabesic Leo Club. Lindsey is also a National Merit Scholarship Program commended student. She plans to attend the University of Rochester to major in neuroscience.


Kimberly Rogers -- Kimberly is the daughter of Mary and Richard Rogers of Waterboro. Kimberly participated in wrestling and won the Girl's Division State Championship twice, the New England Championship once and is the 10th best in the nation. She volunteers in the life skills department and special education rooms teaching one of the students. Kimberly is a member of the National Honor Society. She will attend boot camp in the fall for the Navy to become an interpreter.


Collin Sage -- Collin is the son of Lisa and David Sage of Limerick. He was a varsity player of both the soccer and tennis teams. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Leo Club. He was an All-Academic Athlete and has attained high honor roll. Collin plans to go to college for four years to get a degree in Computer Engineering.


Truman Salo -- Truman is the son of Victoria and John Salo of Alfred. He was on the high school swim team and the Sanford Y Titans. Truman was a participant in the Odyssey of the Mind program and is going to World's Competition in Maryland from May 26 to May 31. He also received a $500 scholarship from Odyssey of the Mind (Maine Adventures in Creativity). Truman's been on the tennis team for the past three seasons and is a member of the National Honor Society. Truman plans to attend Hartwick College, majoring in biochemistry. He will be part of the college's honor program.


Kayla Schneider -- Kayla is the daughter of Brenda and John Schneider of East Waterboro. Kayla participated in varsity basketball, soccer, and track all four years of high school. She was MVP and team captain in basketball her junior and senior years. She was the team captain in soccer and track her senior year. She also received the SMAA Academic Achievement Award her last two years of high school. Kayla plans to attend college at the University of Maine in Orono, majoring in nursing.


Nicole Smith -- Nicole is the daughter of Donna and Kevin Smith of Shapleigh. Nicole has participated in cross country and basketball and received the Coach's Award and the All Academic Award in both. She also received the Nicole Smith-Kendra Johnson Award for Sportsman of the year.  In lacrosse she was a member of the All Rookie Team and received the Offensive MVP and honorable mention titles. Nicole was recognized with the SMAA Citizenship Award and has volunteered for the Special Olympics. She plans to attend the University of New England to become an athletic trainer.


Kaitlyn Toothaker -- Kaitlyn is the daughter of Sandy and Don Toothaker of East Waterboro. She's been an active member of the Girl Scouts throughout her entire academic career. She's played soccer for four years and lacrosse for three. She's been a volunteer basketball coach for the Special Olympics March - April of the 2010/2011 school year and coached Filly Lacrosse in 2010. In addition, Kaitlyn is a member of the National Honor Society and a Teen Liason for Maple Valley Service Unit (Girl Scouts). She plans on majoring in finance and accounting at Bentley University.


Phillip Twombly -- Phillip is the son of Cathy Miele and Philip Twombly of Lyman. He played basketball all four years and also golf as a junior and senior. Phillip plans to go to University of Maine in Orono.


James Walsh -- James is the son of Mary and Bill Walsh of Lyman. He is a member of the National Honor Society. He was in Ski Club for all four years of high school and was in the concert band for two years. In the summer of 2010, James traveled to Europe for three weeks as a People to People student ambassador. James is a member of Leo Club. He was a recipient of the Massabesic Lions Club 2011 Youth Recognition Award for dedication to community service. He volunteered over 100 hours of community service at the Lyman Community Library and the Lyman Elementary School Library. James is an avid skier, hiker, and rock climber and is a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. James will be attending Connecticut College to pursue a career in international studies.


Haley White -- Haley is the daughter of Patrice Pierce of Waterboro and Jeffery White of North Waterboro. She was president for the class her freshman year. She was on the math and debate teams. Haley also participated in tennis all four years and received the Tennis Academic Award. She participated in Regional Fine Arts and also took dance classes. She participated in Amnesty International, the Leo Club, and Culture Club. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Haley also received the Regis College Book Award. Haley plans are to attend the University of New Hampshire. Haley's desire is to live life, try new things, and ultimately be happy.


Deedra Zeeh -- Deedra is the daughter of Janette and Dane Zeeh of Waterboro. She participated in track and field and the Mural Club. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Deedra enjoys horseback riding and horse training. She often volunteers for many hours aiding abused animals, babysitting for those in need, and assisting teachers with classroom duties. She's received an AP Scholar Award, SMAA All Academic Team and numerous high honors awards. She plans on attending USM as a member of the Pioneer program in the fall. Her goal is to become an astrophysicist and revolutionize energy solutions in Maine.
