Nichole Lynn Moore, Valedictorian
Nichole Moore is the daughter of Robert Moore and Andrea Moore and the stepdaughter of Eva Moore. Nichole received the MPA Principal's Award this year for Thornton Academy and was also named Valedictorian of her class. She earned a spot on the All-State Academic Team for field hockey as well as the National Field Hockey Academic Team. Nichole was elected as Student Body Vice President and treasurer of Interact her Senior year and was elected into National Honors Society. She has also traveled to Guatemala and Haiti on international volunteer trips. She played Varsity Field Hockey and Lacrosse all four years of high school and was captain of both teams during her senior year. She is also an avid equestrian and participates on the York Equestrian Team. Nichole plans to attend Boston College in the fall.

Joanna Parks Abaroa
Joanna Abaroa is the daughter of Polly and Fred Abaroa. Joanna was inducted into the National Honors Society in the spring of her junior year and has participated in the Interact club as well as the Environmental club, Student Council, and Model United Nations. She has served as president of the Young Women's program at her local church and has been a member of Treble Choir, Chamber Singers and Dance Company, as well as performed with and choreographed for the TA Players in various productions. She has also been involved with the district and all-state choirs throughout her high school career. She received a scholarship from the National Security Language Initiative for Youth to study Mandarin in China this past summer. Joanna will be attending the University of Pennsylvania in the fall.

Thomas Delano Boutin
Thomas Delano Boutin is the son of Barbara and Donald Boutin of Saco. Thomas was inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior and serves as the secretary. Through NHS he has volunteered work with the Biddeford Soup Kitchen, Mary's Walk, United Way, and several school functions. Boutin played on the golf team for three years and made the All-Academic team his senior year. He was also a member of the ski club. In junior year, Boutiin traveled to China as a member of the cultural connections class. In the fall, Boutin will attend Northeastern University to study engineering.

Tyler David Cadorette
Tyler Cadorette is the son of David and Sandi Cadorette of Saco. Tyler made the honor roll every quarter during his four years at Thornton Academy and was named Thornton Academy's Student of the Month for October 2011. In addition to his work in the classroom, Tyler served as the news director of Thornton Academy Television and was an editor for his school's magazine as a senior. He also spent his afternoons serving as a volunteer swim coach for several local teams and still reports in as a weather watcher for WGME in Portland. Tyler swam competitively throughout high school and was captain of the varsity swim and dive team for two seasons. He plans to attend Lyndon State College for broadcast meteorology in the fall.

Josephine Florence Cooper
Josephine Cooper is the daughter of Susan Gardner and William Cooper, and the granddaughter of Joyce and Ted Gardner. Josephine received The Harvard Club of Washington D.C. Book Prize last year, and is also a member of The National Honors Society. She is President of the Drama Club, and received an award for student direction at the Maine One-Act Regional Competition. An active member of the Thornton Academy Music Department, she participated in 3 choirs, joined seven other Maine students attending The All-Eastern Music Festival last year, and participated four years as a member of The All-State Music Festival. Last Spring Josephine had the honor of traveling to England to study and perform Shakespeare with students from a Shakespeare night class. Josephine will attend Emerson College in Boston, MA for Theatre Studies.

Alexandra Joy Courtney
Alexandra Courtney is the daughter of Thomas and Deborah Courtney of Saco. She is a member of the National Honor Society and student government. She participated in varsity cross country, and is a distance runner in indoor and outdoor track and field. She is a kind and caring person and a dedicated big sister and although she will miss her family and friends dearly, she is excited to be attending the University of Maine Honor's College this coming fall.

Thao Thanh Dang
Thao Thai Thi Thanh Dang is the daughter of Nghin Van Dang and Ha Thi Thu Thai of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She received the Silver Medal in Mathematics at the 2011 Maine Academic Decathlon State Competition. As an organizing member and guest speaker of the student-run and non-profit organization, VietAbroader, Thao has been actively involved for three years, helping Vietnamese youth pursue higher education abroad by holding annual conferences. She is a representative of the Interact Club, works as an AP Chemistry Lab Assistant, and has been a member of the Speech Team, Mathematics Team, Volunteers of America, and Academic Decathlon. This past summer she volunteered for the TEDxMekong 2011 and Viet Youth Entrepreneurs Bootcamp 2011 Light Up in Vietnam. Thao is excited to attend Bates College in the fall.

Danielle Jean Emmons
Danielle Emmons is the daughter of Jennifer and Seth Emmons. She completed the Introduction to Medical Sciences program at Biddeford Regional Center of Technology. Inspired by her mother's work as a CAN, Danielle plans to pursue work in neonatal intensive care units working with babies born prematurely or with congenital defects. Danielle will attend University of Southern Maine School of Nursing this fall.

Alison Julia Folsom
Alison is the daughter of Ed and Lauren Folsom of Saco. She has pursued interests in theater and music since age six. She was a member of the TA Players for four years, with many lead roles, most recently portraying Christine in "Phantom of the Opera." She sang in the Treble Choir as a freshman and in Chamber Singers for the next three years, and was selected for the All State Chorus in 2011 and 2012. She was also an award-winning member of the Speech Team and a member of the National Honor Society. Alison has volunteered for Crossroads and the youth group, Project AWARE. An animal lover, Alison has volunteered at the Animal Welfare Society for six years, as well as trained and handled agility dogs, placing into the Excellence level. She has modeled professionally for two years, and crowned Miss Maine's Outstanding Teen 2011. At the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando, Florida, Alison won a four-year full tuition scholarship to Troy University, but declined it in favor of a comparable scholarship to the University of Maine where she will be a pre-veterinary science major.

Julia Marie Geaumont
Julia Geaumont is the daughter of James and Kristine Geaumont of Saco. Geaumont was an active member of the National Honors Society (Vice President), Thornton Academy Pink Ribbon Club (Treasurer), and Amnesty International. Along with these activities, Geaumont was a student tutor in Spanish, Chemistry and Algebra. On the softball field, Geaumont was a four-year varsity starter, a two-year captain, and recognized as an All-State Player. Geaumont will be attending Bowdoin College where she will be majoring in Biology and playing softball.

Asako Kurosawa
Asako Kurosawa is a native of Tokyo, Japan and is the daughter of Masumi and Yoshihiro Kurosawa. A member of the Thornton community for the past two years, Asako was elected a member of the Cum Laude Society. She is a member of Volunteers of America; through this organization, she worked with the residents of Hazelton House every week. Asako participated in Thornton's Dance Company. As a member of the residential program, Asako was chosen to be a Dorm Prefect and has done exemplary work in this position. Working with Thornton teacher Mr. Mike Nelson on the Intramural Sports Program Committee, she created an after-school intramural program for Thornton students. Asako will attend Waseda University - one of the top universities in Asia.

Katherine Elizabeth Lees
Katherine E. Lees is the daughter of Thomas Lees and Elaine Lees of Saco. Katherine has been heavily involved in music and acting with many groups, including: the Saco Bay Children's Choir, Crossroads, the Thornton Academy Chamber Singers, Treble Choir, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, the Maine District I Choir, and the All-State Choir. This past year, Katherine was honored with the highest level awards - district and state level - for her featured tenor saxophone Jazz solo. She has performed in various plays and musicals, including her role as 'Benvolia' in the TA Players production of Romeo and Juliet this past fall. Katherine volunteers widely - tutoring math and reading at a Saco primary school and, for the past 6 years, teaching K-6 grade children at her church youth program. Katherine earned two awards at National History Day - a first place at the State level her freshman year and third place for her collaborative project her sophomore year. Furthermore, Katherine was awarded the Elmira College Key Award, as well as the Hoc Testimonium Scriptum Recognoscit Award. Katherine is a member of the National Honor Society and participated in student government for 4 years. Katherine plans to attend the Honors College at the University of Maine in Orono, to major in Biology, and aspires to one day become an oral surgeon.

Thomas (Chris) Madden
Thomas (Chris) Madden Jr. was an active member of the class of 2012. Chris was chosen as Thornton Academy's representative in the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Conference his sophomore year. He is a team captain for the Action Team and a member of the National Honor Society. Chris was also a four year member of the baseball and football programs. In football, he was selected to the All-Academic Team, recognized as honorable mention for the All-Conference Team, and is a recipient of the Scholar-Athlete Award from the State of Maine Chapter of the National Football Foundation. Chris will be attending Boston College in the fall. He is the son of Tom and Diane Madden of Saco.

Katelyn Elaine Sommer
Katelyn Sommer is the daughter of Kevin Sommer of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kathleen Lauber of La Vista, Nebraska. Katelyn was elected into the Cum Laude Society as a senior. She has been in the top 10 percent of her class all four years of her high school career. Katelyn has participated in Student Government, Student Ambassadors, National Honors Society, Interact Club, Thornton Academy Orchestra, and was the co-president of Science Olympiad. She has been a member of the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra. Katelyn plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the fall.

Alexandra Joy Vieira
Alexandra Vieira is the daughter of Maria and Antonio Vieira. She was elected to National Honor Society as a junior and was the recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Achievement Award and the Saint Michael's Book Award. Vieira received the nomination from Thornton Academy for the Princeton Book Award of Maine. She has been a member of Student Council for four years, the Concert Band, and Marching Band. She was published in Thornton's student-run publication, Carpe Diem, and participated in National History Day for two years. She also participated in Varsity Tennis. Vieira plans to attend Wheaton College as a Trustee Scholar.

Katherine Ann Zafirson
Katherine Zafirson is the daughter of Steve and Maria Zafirson of Saco. She is a member of National Honor Society and has volunteered in the community through her participation in the Interact Club. Katherine received the SMAA Citizenship Award this year. She has also played softball and basketball all four years of high school. She plans on attending Colby College in the fall.
