Ten Sea Dogs who took over in Boston

The following former Sea Dogs came through the Red Sox organization and earned regular jobs in Boston:

KEVIN YOUKILIS (2003 in Portland): Became starting first baseman in 2006, replacing Kevin Millar. Traded to White Sox in 2012.

JONATHAN PAPELBON (2005): Joined the Red Sox bullpen in 2005 after making three starts, then became the closer in 2006, replacing Keith Foulke. Signed as free agent with Philadelphia after 2011 season.

JON LESTER (2005): Became a starting pitcher in 2006, replacing David Pauley (who had replaced the injured David Wells).

DUSTIN PEDROIA (2005): Became starting second baseman in 2007, replacing Mark Loretta.

JACOBY ELLSBURY (2006-07): Became starting center fielder in the 2007 postseason, replacing Coco Crisp.

JED LOWRIE (2007): Became starting shortstop in 2008, replacing the injured Julio Lugo. Was on the opening-day roster as a starter in 2009, but injuries then limited him. Was traded to Houston before 2012 season.

CLAY BUCHHOLZ (2007): Became starting pitcher for good in 2009, replacing an injured Tim Wakefield.

DANIEL BARD (2008): Became a relief pitcher in 2009, replacing Javier Lopez.

FELIX DOUBRONT (2009-10): Became a starting pitcher in 2012, replacing the injured John Lackey.

WILL MIDDLEBROOKS (2011): Became starting third baseman in 2012, replacing Kevin Youkilis.
