AMHERST, Mass. — The University of Massachusetts scored two goals 17 seconds apart in the second period and held off the University of Maine for a 2-1 Hockey East win Saturday night.

Michael Pereira scored on a power play at 8:23, and Ray Pigozzi made it 2-0.

Devin Shore put in a pass from Ben Hutton for a power-play goal 6:11 into the third period, but Maine (3-3-1, 0-1-1 Hockey East) converted just 1 of 7 power plays.

Martin Ouellette made 24 saves for the Black Bears. Steve Mastalerz stopped 38 shots for the Minutemen (3-4-1, 1-1-1).

BOWDOIN 6, TRINITY 1: Katie Riley tied a NESCAC tournament record with four goals as the third-seeded Polar Bears (13-2) downed the sixth-ranked Bantams (8-7) in a quarterfinal at Brunswick.

Colleen Finnerty chipped in a goal and an assist, Pam Herter also scored and Rachel Kennedy added two assists for the Polar Bears.

ST. JOSEPH’S 4, LASELL 1: Effie Drew scored twice and the second-seeded Monks (14-3) got three goals in a six-minute span early in the first half to pull away from the seventh-ranked Lasers (10-10) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinal at Standish.

Meghan Williams and Kelsey Dumond added a goal apiece.

MAINE 9, VERMONT 1: Annabelle Hamilton collected three goals and an assist to lead the Black Bears (11-8, 3-2 America East) as they scored three times in the opening 11 minutes and cruised to a win over the Catamounts (0-18, 0-5) at Orono.

Holly Stewart added a pair of goals and Danielle Aviani finished with a goal and two assists for the Black Bears.

SOUTHERN MAINE 5, FITCHBURG STATE 4: Jessica Boghasian scored just 51 seconds into overtime as the Huskies (10-10, 6-5 Little East) beat the Falcons (6-11, 1-10) at Fitchburg, Mass., to clinch a berth in the conference tournament.

Rebecca Pratt had two goals for the Huskies. Natalie Harkins and Ariel Kaplan also scored, and Peyton Dostie added three assists.

UNE 3, ROGER WILLIAMS 1: Casey Clark scored the first of her two goals in the second minute, and the Nor’easters (14-5, 12-0 Commonwealth) went on to beat the Hawks (5-14, 0-12) in Bristol, R.I.

Brooke Marshall assisted on Clark’s first goal and later knocked in a pass from Hannah Tavella in the 60th minute. Clark got her second goal in the 36th minute off a penalty corner by Tavella.

MIDDLEBURY 3, COLBY 0: Bridget Instrum and Katherine Theiss scored second-half goals as the fourth-seeded Panthers (13-2) pulled away from the fifth-seeded Mules (9-6) in a NESCAC quarterfinal at Middlebury, Vt.

WENTWORTH 2, UNE 1: Olivia Moore scored on an assist from Tori Armishaw with 4:18 left in the second overtime to lift the fifth-seeded Leopards (7-8-4) over the fourth-seeded Nor’easters (8-9-2) in a Commonwealth Coast quarterfinal at Biddeford.

The Nor’easters got the equalizer with just two second left in regulation when Lindsey Monaco scored on the rebound of a shot by Jessica Meader.

SUFFOLK 2, ST. JOSEPH’S 1: Lisa Gambale scored the deciding goal in penalty kicks as the sixth-seeded Rams (6-11-1) upset the third-seeded Monks (15-3-1) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinal at Standish.

The Monks scored first in regulation when Ashley Beaulieu knocked home a loose ball in the 25th minute.

TUFTS 2, BOWDOIN 1: Caitlin Brandman scored with 21:14 remaining as the sixth-seeded Jumbos (9-6) upset the third-seeded Polar Bears (11-3-1) in a NESCAC quarterfinal at Brunswick.

Bowdoin tied the game on an own goal earlier in the second half.

MIDDLEBURY 3, COLBY 1: Amanda Findlay scored Colby’s only goal in the first half as the eighth-seeded Mules (5-7-3) lost to the top-seeded Panthers (11-1-3) in a NESCAC quarterfinal at Middlebury, Vt.

KEENE STATE 4, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Hayley Kenyon collected a goal and an assist to lead the Owls (15-4-1, 6-1 Little East) past the Huskies (5-13-1, 2-5) at Keene, N.H.

Katie Cobb finished with 11 saves for USM.

BOWDOIN 3, TUFTS 2: Andrew Jones scored the decisive penalty kick as the fifth-seeded Polar Bears (9-3-3) advanced to the NESCAC semifinals with a victory over the fourth-seeded Jumbos (8-6-1) at Somerville, Mass.

Cedric Charlier and Dias Costa scored second-half goals to give Bowdoin a 2-0 lead, but Tufts scored twice in the final 10 minutes of regulation.

KEENE STATE 6, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: The Huskies (0-18-1, 0-7 Little East) managed only an own goal in a loss to the Owls at Gorham.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 1, CHATHAM 1: Lilly Henjes scored on a power play with 1:10 left in regulation as the Nor’easters (1-0-1) rallied for a tie against the Cougars (0-1-1) at Biddeford.

Gabriella Moscato and Shannon Smith assisted on the UNE goal. Courtney Kendall finished with 24 saves for UNE.
