MONTCLAIR, N.J. — Katie Riley scored three goals and also had an assist Saturday to lead Bowdoin to a 5-2 win over SUNY New Paltz in the second round of the NCAA Division III field hockey tournament.

Rachel Kennedy added a goal and an assist, and Emily Simonton also scored for Bowdoin (15-3), which will face Montclair State at 1 p.m. Sunday. 

UNE 2, BRIDGEWATER STATE 1: Brooke Marshall redirected a shot by Hannah Warren with 1:58 left in the second overtime to lift the second-seeded Nor’easters (16-6) over the third-seeded Bears (16-6) in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III New England tournament at Plymouth, N.H.

UNE took the lead 20 minutes into the game when Hannah Tavella scored off a deflection. Bridgewater tied it 14 minutes into the second half.

The Nor’easters will face top-seeded Plymouth State in the championship game at noon Sunday.

BOWDOIN 3, CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT 1: Kiersten Turner, Maggie Godley and Molly Popolizio scored second-half goals as the Polar Bears (12-3-1) rallied past Christopher Newport (14-4-2) in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament at Montclair, N.J.

Turner tied the match in the 61st minute off a cross from Demi Feder. Godley’s first goal of the season just two minutes later put Bowdoin ahead, and Popolizio scored in the 71st minute after a pass from Morgan Woodhouse.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

MAINE 75, BRYANT 65: Ashleigh Roberts and Sigi Koizar scored 16 points apiece to lead four players in double figures for the Black Bears (2-0) in a win over the Bulldogs (1-1) at Bangor.

Koizar scored four of her points during an 11-0 run that extended Maine’s lead to 56-43 midway through the second half.

Sophie Weckstrom added 14 points.

SOUTHERN MAINE 86, UMAINE-FARMINGTON 57: Erin McNamara scored 17 of her 24 points in the second half as the Huskies (2-0) pulled away from the Beavers (1-1) at Farmington.

Taylor Flood added 15 points and Mariah Callender scored 10 for the Huskies, who led 32-31 at halftime. 

ST. JOSEPH’S 68, CURRY 55: Lindsay Moore finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and five steals, and the Monks (2-0) closed out the game with a 24-10 run to beat the Colonels (1-1) at Milton, Mass.

Abby Young and Morgan Cahill added 11 points apiece. Young also grabbed 10 rebounds. 

UNE 69, RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 57: Kelly Coleman scored 18 of her 19 points in the second half to help the Nor’easters (2-0) pull away from the Anchorwomen (1-1) at Biddeford.

Alanna Vose added 16 points and four assists. Sadie DiPierro finished with 12 points.

BOWDOIN 81, SALEM STATE 49: Marle Curle scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half as the Polar Bears (2-0) pulled away from the Vikings (1-1) at Salem, Mass. 

BATES 84, SIMMONS 55: Meredith Kelly scored 26 points and Allaina Murphy added 19 as the Bobcats (1-1) routed the Sharks (0-2) at Boston.

COLBY 70, BRANDEIS 67: Jen Nale scored 16 points, including a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 2:09 remaining to lift the Mules (2-0) over the Judges (1-1) at Waltham, Mass. 

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 59, VERMONT TECH 37: Danielle McCusker scored 21 points and Jaimi Poland grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the Seawolves (4-1, 2-0 YSCC) past the Knights (2-2, 2-1) at Randolph, Vt.

SOUTHERN MAINE 82, ST. JOSEPH’S (N.Y.) 65: Conor Sullivan finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds as the Huskies (1-1) beat the Golden Eagles (0-2) at Westfield, Mass.

Tyler Penney and Cole Libby added 15 and 14 points, respectively. 

BOWDOIN 74, REGIS 61: Keegan Pieri scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lift the Polar Bears (2-0) over the Pride (1-1) at Weston, Mass.

John Swords added 18 points and nine rebounds. 

DANIEL WEBSTER 89, UNE 61: Justin Pollard scored 16 points, and Brayden Morse added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Nor’easters (0-1) in a loss to the Eagles (2-0) at Biddeford. 

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 80, VERMONT TECH 78: Jose Nouchanthavong’s basket with one second left lifted the Seawolves (7-0, 2-0 YSCC) over the Knights (3-2, 2-2) at Randolph, Vt.

Nouchanthavong finished with 16 points and five assists. Tong Akot added 14 points and eight rebounds.

UMASS-DARTMOUTH 79, COLBY 74: Chris Hudnut scored 27 points for Colby (1-1) in a loss to the Corsairs (2-0) at North Dartmouth, Mass.

MEN’S HOCKEY

SOUTHERN MAINE 4, ST. MICHAEL’S 3: Ryan Seward had a goal and an assist, and Pier-Michael LaPointe scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second period as the Huskies (2-2, 2-2 ECAC East) beat the Purple Knights (0-3, 0-3) at Gorham.

Kelly Lorenz and Todd Bannerman also scored for USM. 

BOWDOIN 2, MIDDLEBURY 2: John McGinnis scored the equalizer for Bowdoin with 7:16 left in regulation as they rallied to tie the Panthers in a season opener at Middlebury, Vt.

Bowdoin took the lead 12:17 into the game on a goal by Kendall Culbertson, but Middlebury responded with a pair of second-period goals.

Max Fenkell made 34 saves for the Polar Bears.

COLBY 1, WILLIAMS 1: Ben Chwick scored the tying goal on a one-timer in the third period as the Mules rallied for a draw in a season opener at Williamstown, Mass. 

NORWICH 8, UNE 1: Cassidy April scored for the Nor’easters (2-3-1, 1-3 ECAC East) in a loss to the Cadets (4-0, 3-0) at Bidde- ford.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

SOUTHERN MAINE 2, CASTLETON STATE 1: Bridget O’Brien scored her second goal of the game 3:11 into the third period to lift the Huskies (4-0, 3-0 ECAC East) over the Spartans (3-3, 1-1) at Gorham.

USM took the lead just 3:07 into the game when O’Brien scored on an assist from Lynn Kozlow- ski. The Spartans got the equalizer early in the second period.

Liz Bergstrom made 30 saves to earn the win. 

VERMONT 4, MAINE 1: Amanda Pelkey scored a pair of goals to lead the Catamounts (4-6-2, 2-2-1 Hockey East) to a win over the Black Bears (0-8-3, 0-4-3) at Orono.

Maine cut the deficit to 2-1 on a power-play goal by Audra Richards 8:47 into the second period. 

MIDDLEBURY 4, COLBY 0: Hannah Bielawski and Katie Sullivan each finished with a goal and two assists to lead the Panthers (2-0, 2-0 NESCAC) past the Mules (0-2, 0-2) at Waterville.

Brianne Wheeler finished with 38 saves for Colby.

CURRY 54, MAINE MARITIME 38: Billy Weatherbee rushed for 206 yards and a touchdown, and Michael Fahey scored two touchdowns, but the Mariners (1-8, 1-6 NEFC) lost their season finale against the Colonels (4-5, 4-3) at Castine. 

MT. IDA 6, HUSSON 0: Melquan Pinkney scored on a 21-yard run just over four minutes into the game, and the Mustangs (5-5, 4-3 ECFC) held on to edge the Eagles (5-5, 4-3) at Bangor.

Byron Jackson rushed for 84 yards on 24 carries for Husson. Stephan Dance led the Eagles’ defense with 12 tackles, including one sack.

RUGBY

BOWDOIN 39, HAMILTON 22: Samantha Hoegle scored two tries in the first half as the Polar Bears (9-1) advanced to the final eight of the American College Rugby Association playoffs with a win over the Continentals (7-2) at Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Amanda Montenegro, Addison Carvajal, Paige Pfannenstiel, Maura Allen and Emily Athanas-Linden also scored tries for Bowdoin, which plays Kutztown University at 11 a.m. Sunday for a spot in the final four Dec. 7-8 at Auburndale, Fla.
