Sea Dogs to have Workman, Bradley as featured guests for their Hot Stove event
The Portland Sea Dogs will have pitcher Brandon Workman and outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. as featured guests at the Sea Dogs 2014 Hot Stove Dinner and Silent Auction on Friday, Jan. 17, at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland.
Tickets for the event, which benefits the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, are $50 and can be purchased in person at Hadlock Field, by phone at 879-9500, or online at www.seadogs.com.

MLS: Colorado midfielder Dillon Powers was voted Major League Soccer’s Rookie of the Year.
The 22-year-old native of Plano, Texas, who played in college for Notre Dame, started 29 games with five goals and six assists this season.
Powers received 93 percent of team, media and player votes. Rapids forward Deshorn Brown was second at 75 percent and Seattle defender DeAndre Yedlin was third at 43.
The Los Angeles Galaxy won the team Fair Play Award and Portland midfielder Darlington Nagbe won the individual Fair Play Award.
DIED: Bill Foulkes, a Manchester United defender who survived the 1958 Munich air crash that killed eight players on the storied team, has died. He was 81.
Foulkes played 688 times for United after making his debut in 1952. Only Ryan Giggs, Bobby Charlton and Paul Scholes played more times for the club.

RUSSIA: Russian athletes will receive hefty bonuses if they win medals on home soil in Sochi.
A decree posted on the government’s website said Russia will pay 4 million rubles ($122,000) to Russian gold medalists, $76,000 to silver medalists and $46,000 to bronze winners.
Russia turned to bonuses for medal winners in the 1990s, when athletes and entire sports federations survived on paltry state subsidies.
Four years ago in Vancouver, Russia recorded its worst-ever performance at a Winter Games, winning 15 medals and finishing 11th in the table.
TENNIS
INJURED: Surprise 2009 U.S. Open quarterfinalist Melanie Oudin said she has a muscle-damaging condition that may be caused by intense exertion. Oudin, 22, is ranked 129th.
Symptoms of the condition, called rhabdomyolysis, can include muscle pain and severe cases can lead to kidney damage.
At 17, Oudin pulled off a series of upsets, including against Maria Sharapova, to reach the U.S. Open’s final eight.
