VESTAL, N.Y. — Tommy Lawrence struck out seven and walked two in a six-hitter Saturday to lead the University of Maine to a 3-0 win over Binghamton in the opener of an America East baseball doubleheader Saturday.

Binghamton (11-19, 5-8) beat the Black Bears (14-20, 5-6) in the second game, 7-1.

Alex Calbick broke a scoreless tie with a home run to lead off the eighth inning in the opener. Calbick finished with three hits, and Jonathan Salcedo and Scott Heath each had an RBI single.

Troy Black homered for Maine in the second game.

USM, PLYMOUTH STATE SPLIT: John Carey went 3 for 5 with a run to help the Huskies (23-7, 8-1 Little East) take the opener 6-2 at Gorham. Jake Glauser and Jake Welch each were 2 for 4, and Tyler Leavitt pitched seven scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

The Panthers (15-13) took the second game 7-1, ending USM’s nine-game winning streak. Jake Glauser and Chris Bernard were 2 for 4 for Southern Maine.

ST. JOSEPH’S, SUFFOLK SPLIT: Joe Gruntkosky struck out eight with no walks in a three-hitter to lead the Monks (20-11, 11-3) to a 5-0 win over the Rams (18-10-1, 12-2) in the second game of a GNAC doubleheader at Quincy, Mass.

Nic Lops opened the scoring with a first-inning sacrifice fly, then had an RBI single in a four-run second. Alex Lorenc added a two-run double in the second.

In the opener, Suffolk scored 11 unanswered runs starting in the third inning and cruised to a 14-2 win. Lorenc went 4 for 4 for the Monks.

BATES, TRINITY SPLIT: Brendan Fox went 3 for 4 with three RBI, including a single during a six-run eighth inning as the Bobcats (13-11, 4-3) pulled away for a 12-7, extra-inning win over the Bantams (10-16, 4-8) in the opener of a NESCAC East doubleheader at Hartford, Conn.

Mekae Hyde added three hits and scored three runs, and Griff Tewksbury hit his fifth homer of the season and added a double for the Bobcats.

Trinity won the second game 2-1 on Scott Huley’s bases-loaded single with two outs in the ninth.

Bates starter Will Levangie gave up one run on four hits, striking out five over 61/3 innings.

BOWDOIN, WILLIAMS SPLIT: Aaron Rosen was 4 for 4 with an RBI and a run to lead the Polar Bears (14-11-1, 4-5 NESCAC) to a 4-2 win over Williams (8-12, 4-5) in the opener at Brunswick.

Erik Jacobsen pitched six innings, allowing two runs, striking out four.

Williams won the second game 7-6 in 10 innings on David Rosas’ single. John Lefeber of Bowdoin allowed one earned run in four innings of relief.

TUFTS SWEEPS COLBY: Matt Moser knocked in the winning run in the 10th inning to lead the Jumbos (23-2, 6-1 NESCAC East) over the Mules (13-9, 4-5) 3-2 in the opener at Medford, Mass. Dakota Rabbitt suffered the loss in relief.

Tufts won the second game 1-0 with a run in the seventh.

SMCC SWEEPS NHTI: Jon Daniszewski hit a single and an RBI double during a nine-run third inning for the Seawolves (14-17, 7-4 Yankee) in a 12-5 win over the Lynx (11-6, 7-5) in the opener at South Portland, and Zachary Horton hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning of an 11-7 victory in the second game.

SOFTBALL

BOWDOIN SWEEPS BRANDEIS: Nicole Nelson hit a three-run double to break a scoreless tie in the fourth inning, and Emily Griffin scattered six hits and struck out three for the Polar Bears (18-10) in a 5-1 win over the Judges (15-15) in the opener at Brunswick.

Bowdoin completed the sweep with another 5-1 victory behind a six-hitter from Melissa DellaTorre, who struck out eight and walked two.

Nelson had three hits with two RBI and a run, and Griffin had two hits and scored three runs.

TUFTS SWEEPS BATES: The fourth-ranked Jumbos (26-3, 8-0 NESCAC East) totaled 23 runs and 31 hits to sweep the Bobcats (5-15, 1-7) at Lewiston.

Lauren Giglio struck out 11 in a 10-1 victory in the opener with Bates’ run coming on a Karen Lockhart homer. Tufts controlled the second game, 13-0.

STONY BROOK SWEEPS MAINE: Allison Cukrov combined to strike out 10 and scatter six hits, pitching two complete games for the Seawolves (24-14, 12-1 America East) against the Black Bears (15-15, 6-7) at Stony Brook, N.Y.

Alexis Bogdanovich pitched a six-hitter for the Black Bears in a 1-0 loss in the opener, and Jean Stevens homered for Maine in a 3-1 loss in the second game.

ST. JOSEPH’S (MAINE) SWEEPS ST. JOSEPH’S (CONN.): The Monks (28-4, 20-2 GNAC) twice beat the Blue Jays (19-10, 15-5) 10-2 at Standish.

Theresa Hendrix and Danica Gleason each went 2 for 3 with two runs in the opener, and Hendrix and Kim Jordan homered in the second game.

NHTI SWEEPS SMCC: Anna Allard hit an RBI triple and stole home during a three-run third inning for the Seawolves (11-19, 4-7 Yankee) in an 8-3 loss against the Lynx (20-10-1, 16-3) in the opener at South Portland. NHTI also won the second game, 4-0.

KEENE STATE 6, SOUTHERN MAINE 5: Sara Bracken’s single in the ninth inning lifted the Owls (11-12, 3-4 Little East) over the Huskies (14-16, 2-7) at Keene, N.H.

Kristen Duross was 3 for 4 with two runs, and Stefanie Stockwell went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI for USM.

TRINITY SWEEPS COLBY: Hannah King of Kennebunk struck out six in the first game and pitched 32/3 innings of shutout relief in the second as the Bantams (9-16, 7-5 NESCAC) swept the Mules (5-15, 1-7) at Hartford, Conn., 2-0 and 5-0.

MEN’S LACROSSE

CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 11, BATES 8: Tyler Hegarty scored four goals to pace the Camels (9-5, 5-4 NESCAC) over the Bobcats (4-8, 1-8) at Lewiston.

Jack Allard led Bates with three goals and two assists, Will Gilkeson added a pair of goals and an assist, and Charlie Kazarian had five saves.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 14, UNE 9: The Golden Bears (7-7, 6-1 Commonwealth Coast) scored the final five goals to defeat the Nor’easters (5-11, 2-5) at Biddeford. Patrick Wolfe scored five goals for UNE.

KEENE STATE 18, USM 2: Robert Hart and Tyler Reilly combined for nine goals to lead the Owls (6-6, 5-0 Little East) past the Huskies (2-11, 0-5) at Keene, N.H.

Burleigh Desjardins and Seth Wing scored, and Ryan Jurgelevich had 21 saves for USM.

ENDICOTT 18, BOWDOIN 10: Harrison Cotter scored seven goals to lead the 15th-ranked Gulls (12-3) past the Polar Bears (9-5) at Beverly, Mass.

ST. JOSEPH’S 11, ALBERTUS MAGNUS 7: Brandon Boutin scored all of his game-high four goals in the first half as the Monks (6-7, 5-5 GNAC) took a 9-3 lead and held off the Falcons (3-10, 2-8) at Portland.

MIDDLEBURY 12, COLBY 6: Jon Broome finished with two goals and six assists to lead the Panthers (8-6, 6-3 NESCAC) past the Mules (6-7, 3-6) at Waterville. Austin Sayre scored twice for Colby.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 19, UNE 11: Jessica Scanapieco and Taylor Sialdone combined for nine goals and five assists for the Golden Bears (16-0, 7-0), who took control with a 6-0 run midway through the first half in a Commonwealth Coast win over the Nor’easters (8-7, 3-4) at Biddeford.

USM 12, EASTERN CONNECTICUT 9: The Huskies (5-7, 1-2 Little East) scored eight second-half goals to rally past the Warriors (3-11, 2-3) at Mansfield, Conn.

SIMMONS 11, ST. JOSEPH’S 10: Greer Gilbert scored a late goal as the Sharks (7-6, 6-4 GNAC) edged the Monks (10-7, 8-2) at Portland.

COLBY 14, MIDDLEBURY 11: Lindsey McKenna and Katharine Eddy combined for eight goals and three assists as the Mules (7-5, 5-4 NESCAC) beat the Panthers (10-4, 6-3) at Middlebury, Vt.
