BANGOR — A hockey coach has resigned from Bangor High School over a flap that followed his refusal to allow a bathroom break on a three-hour bus trip.
Denis Collins, last year's Eastern Maine Class A Coach of the Year, told the team that there'd be no stops en route to Presque Isle because the game time was moved up by 15 minutes and he was worried about arriving late. The bus also made the return trip without stops, but Collins said there'd been no similar edict.
Bangor Principal Paul Butler had been investigating.
Collins tells the Bangor Daily News that in hindsight the bus should've stopped for a restroom break. He said he resigned "to remove any continued drama" that could distract the team.
