CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Bill Arnold scored twice as third-ranked Boston College pulled away from a 1-1 second-period tie with three goals in the span of 1:38 en route to a 7-2 win over the Maine Black Bears at Conte Forum. Maine falls to 11-8-3 on the season and 5-3-2 in Hockey East play. The Eagles improve to 16-4-3 overall, 10-1-1 in conference play.

BC took the lead at 4:18 of the second period when Scott Savage made a pass from the wall to Arnold stationed just outside the crease. Arnold one-timed the puck past Black Bears goalie Martin Ouellette. The Eagles extended their lead to 3-1 on Arnold’s power-play goal at 5:04; Ian McCoshen made it 4-1 less than a minute later from Patrick Brown and Ryan Fitzgerald.

Stu Higgins netted a power-play goal for Maine with 1:20 left in the period, but Patrick Brown countered for Boston College 1:16 into the third period. Kevin Hayes scored his second and third goals of the game later in the period for the Eagles.

Boston College took a 1-0 lead 1:10 into the game when Hayes put back the rebound of his own shot. Maine tied the game after Dan Renouf’s shot from the blueline hit traffic in front of the goal. With both teams kept poking at the puck, Jon Swavely pushed the puck across the goal line with one second remaining in the period.
