STONY BROOK, N.Y. — After playing to a 1-1 tie through 110 minutes, the second-seeded Stony Brook Seawolves (11-5-2) won a penalty kick shootout 3-1 to advance past the third-ranked Maine Black Bears (9-5-5) in an America East semifinal.

Stony Brook took the lead in the 30th minute on a goal by Larissa Nysch. The Black Bears tied the game with 10:58 left in regulation when Lisa Bijman headed in a free kick from Joanie L’Abbe.

Claudia Dube-Trempe finished with a career-high 11 saves for the Black Bears, who had a 25-22 edge in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

CONNECTICUT 4, MAINE 4: The Huskies (3-5-1, 0-1-1 Hockey East) scored three goals in the final five minutes of regulation to rally for a tie against the Black Bears (0-5-3, 0-1-3) at Orono.

Jennifer More, Audra Richards, Katy Massey and Abbey Cook scored for the Black Bears, who led 3-0 going into the third period. Maine also got two assists apiece from Kelly McDonald and Jillian Langtry.

MEN’S SOCCER

ALBERTUS MAGNUS 1, ST. JOSEPH’S 0: Dan Dwyer scored off a corner kick by Austin Tomin in the 71st minute to lift the seventh-seeded Falcons (6-9-2) to an upset win over the second-ranked Monks (10-8-1) in a GNAC quarterfinal at Standish.

The ball initially appeared to be stopped by goalkeeper Scott Benner, with the Monks moving upfield before the officials ruled it had crossed the line.

BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Florida State is back in second place in the BCS standings, edging past Oregon behind first-place Alabama.

The Seminoles’ lead is thin and their stay at No. 2 could be short.

Third-place Oregon plays Stanford on Thursday night, and a win is likely to push the Ducks back into second.
