FOOTBALL
NORTH CAROLINA:
The  careers of seniors Marvin Austin and Greg Little and junior Robert Quinn are over as the result of an NCAA investigation.

Austin has been dismissed from the team, and Little and Quinn have been ruled permanently ineligible because of untruthfulness, Chancellor Holden Thorp said.

All three players have been withheld from games since the beginning of the season because of the NCAA’s investigation into improprieties involving sports agents and possible academic misconduct connected to an undergraduate tutor.

RICHMOND: Quarterback Aaron Corp will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a left knee injury in the Spiders’ loss at New Hampshire on Saturday.

The school has not released details about Corp’s injury, but says he will have surgery this week. He was injured on Richmond’s first offensive series Saturday in a game the Spiders (2-3) went on to lose 17-0.

VIRGINIA TECH: Left guard Greg Nosal has earned tough-guy points, postponing the reattachment of a torn-off tip of his left pinkie to keep playing.

The school says Nosal lost the finger tip when it got caught between two helmets in the first half Saturday against Central Michigan. After a brief search, team doctors found the severed piece inside his glove and determined that it could be reattached.

They gave 6-foot-6, 293-pound red-shirt junior the option to do it right then or have the tip put on ice.

He chose going back in the game, received some pain medication and went back in.

The finger tip was reattached in the fourth quarter, after the pain medication had started to wear off and when the Hokies were substituting in a 45-21 win.
