ORONO — Audra Richards scored off an assist from Karissa Kirkup with a minute left in the first period and the University of Maine held on for its first Hockey East win of the season, 1-0 over Providence at Alfond Arena Sunday afternoon.

The Friars (10-15, 5-7) had an 11-6 shot advantage on the Black Bears (3-14-5, 1-8-3) in the third period, but were unable to get one by Maine goalie Meghann Treacy, who had 27 saves.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

(1) CONNECTICUT 94, (23) RUTGERS 64: Bria Hartley scored a career-high 30 points and Breanna Stewart added 23 to lead the visiting Huskies (19-0, 6-0 American Athletic) past the Scarlet Knights (13-4, 4-2) for their 25th straight win.

(3) DUKE 74, VIRGINIA TECH 70: Tricia Liston scored 22 points, Alexis Jones had 19, and Duke (18-1, 5-0 Atlantic Coast) held off a late rally by host Virginia Tech (10-7, 0-4).

(5) LOUISVILLE 81, SMU 66: Antonita Slaughter had two 3-pointers in a go-ahead 11-0 run for Louisville early in the second half, and the Cardinals (18-1, 6-0 AAC) stretched their winning streak to 11 games, beating SMU (11-7, 2-5) at Dallas.

(6) MARYLAND 92, GEORGIA TECH 81: Alyssa Thomas had 22 points and 14 rebounds for her NCAA-leading 15th double-double, and host Maryland (16-1, 4-0 ACC) withstood a strong challenge from Georgia Tech (12-5, 2-3).

KANSAS 76, (7) BAYLOR 60: Chelsea Gardner scored 28 points and Natalie Knight added 18 as host Kansas (9-9, 2-4 Big 12) ended a 44-game conference winning streak for Baylor (14-2, 4-1).

(8) SOUTH CAROLINA 77, ALABAMA 51: Elem Ibiam scored 18 points and the Gamecocks (17-2, 5-1 SEC) bounced back from their first conference loss.

(9) NORTH CAROLINA 73, BOSTON COLLEGE 56: Allisha Gray and Xylina McDaniel scored 16 points apiece to lead North Carolina (16-3, 4-1 ACC) at Boston College (11-8, 2-3).

(10) KENTUCKY 73, AUBURN 71: Jennifer O’Neill scored 16 points, Samarie Walker had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Kentucky (15-3, 3-2 SEC) overcame a 13-point first-half deficit at Auburn (11-6, 2-2).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

(14) IOWA 94, MINNESOTA 73: Aaron White scored his 18 points in the second half and Josh Oglesby added a season-high 17 as the host Hawkeyes (15-3, 4-1 Big Ten) blew past the Gophers (14-5, 3-3).
