Fairfield senior named Gatorade soccer player of the year

Matt Saunders of Lawrence High School in Fairfield has been named the 2012-13 Gatorade Maine Boys Soccer Player of the Year.

A 5-11, 170-pound senior forward, Saunders scored 19 goals and had five assists to lead the Bulldogs to the Eastern Class A quarterfinals.

A two-time all-state competitor and an all-New England selection, Saunders will attend the United States Naval Academy next fall.
