High school boys’ roundup: Marshwood edges South Portland

Zach Mitchell’s free throw with no time remaining gives the Hawks a 53-52 win.

SOUTH PORTLAND — Zach Mitchell sank a free throw with no time remaining after he was fouled as the final buzzer sounded, giving Marshwood a 53-52 victory over South Portland in an SMAA boys’ basketball game Monday afternoon.

South Portland (5-7) led 43-35 entering the fourth quarter, but Drew Bartlett drained three 3-pointers to help pull the Hawks (4-8) even.

Bartlett finished with 20 points. Brady Innis added 16.

Jaren Muller scored 18 points and Jack Fiorini had 11 for South Portland.

WINDHAM 64, NOBLE 58: Markus D’Andrea scored 25 points to lead the Eagles (6-7) past the Knights (7-6) at North Berwick.

Kevin Weisser added 18 points for Windham, which made 15 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Noble got 16 points from Sean Jackson, 12 from Grayson Waterman and 10 from Brady Dodge.

THORNTON ACADEMY 50, GORHAM 40: Quinn Richardson-Newton scored six of his 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Trojans (6-4) pulled away from the Rams (5-8) at Saco.

Evan Wright added 10 points for the Trojans, who closed out the game with an 18-7 run.

Tyler Bernaiche and Corey Nadeau had eight points apiece to lead Gorham.

KENNEBUNK 49, LAKE REGION 48: Ben Wilson made a jump hook in the lane with 10 seconds left as the Rams (4-9) edged the Lakers (7-6) at Naples.

Lake Region had taken a one-point lead with 28 seconds left when Ben Chaine hit a 3-pointer.

Wilson led the Rams with 18 points and Austin Sandler added 15.

Jack Lesure paced Lake Region with 21 points.

POLAND 75, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 55: C.J. Martin sank four 3-pointers en route to 16 second-quarter points, sparking the Knights (6-7) to a win over the Patriots (2-10) in Poland.

Poland outscored Gray-New Gloucester 31-15 in the second quarter to turn a 17-11 deficit into a 42-32 lead.

Martin finished with 31 points.

Andreas Kariotis scored 15 for the Patriots, Tyler St. Pierre had 11, and Spencer Harriman and Sam Johnson added 10 each.

GREELY 86, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 49: Conner Hanley went 10 for 12 from the floor while scoring 21 points to pace the Rangers (11-1) to a win over the Seagulls (10-3) at Cumberland.

Michael McDevitt added 18 points and 13 rebounds for Greely, which raced out to a 45-19 halftime lead.

Old Orchard Beach was led by Joey Gildard with 13 points.

BOOTHBAY 52, WINTHROP 45: John Hepburn scored 17 points in the second half to lead the Seahawks (13-1) to a come-from-behind win over Winthrop (11-3) at Boothbay Harbor.

Boothbay turned the game around with an 18-6 run in the third quarter.

Hepburn finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Jacob Hickey led Winthrop with 16 points.

FOREST HILLS 72, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 35: Tanner Daigle scored 12 of his 27 points in the first quarter to get Forest Hills (13-1) rolling in a win over Greater Portland Christian (1-11) at South Portland.

David Davol paced GPCS with 15 points.

RICHMOND 47, PINE TREE ACADEMY 31: The Bobcats (9-4) jumped out to a 21-5 first-quarter lead en route to a win in Richmond.

Matt Holt led Richmond with 17 points, while Sean Bernier added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Jean-Pierre Tashamala paced Pine Tree (4-8) with 11 points.


SOUTH PORTLAND 9, BONNY EAGLE 8: Andrew Whipple scored the tying goal with 3:41 left in regulation and got the winner 13 seconds into overtime to lift the Red Riots (5-4) over the Scots (1-8-1) at Portland Ice Arena.

Whipple finished with five goals and an assist. Chris Mitchell and Dylan Farrell-Reny added two goals apiece.

Bonny Eagle got three goals each from Tanner McClure and Justin Miles. McClure also had three assists and Miles assisted on two goals.

YORK 3, KENNEBUNK 2: Mike LeBlanc made 38 saves and Derrick Neal scored two unassisted goal to help the Wildcats (3-6) beat the Rams (6-3-1) at Dover, N.H.

GORHAM 4, CAPE ELIZABETH 2: Carl Bear recorded two goals as the Rams (7-2) beat the Capers (2-8-1) in Gorham.

GREELY 4, LEAVITT 1: Andrew Ray had two goals and assist for Greely (3-5-2) in a victory over the Hornets (4-6) at Auburn.

Reid Howland contributed a goal and two assists.

BIDDEFORD 8, PORTLAND/DEERING 0: Ricky Ruck scored four goals for the Tigers (4-5-1) as they downed Portland/Deering (3-6-1) at Biddeford Ice Arena.

Kerry Crepeau and Tyler Bellerose each added a goal and an assist.
