Brandon Wambolt pitched a five-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts, and Jed Scott doubled in a run in the third inning Wednesday as Sanford defeated Portland 1-0 in an SMAA baseball opener at Hadlock Field.

Jimmy Parks reached on a throwing error leading off the third, stole second and scored on Scott’s two-out double.

Portland starter Ryan Dixon allowed four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in five innings.

OCEANSIDE 5, CAMDEN HILLS 4: Travis Frye snapped a 2-2 tie with an RBI single in the fifth inning as Oceanside won an opener at Rockland.

Zach Peaco added an RBI single in the sixth and Walker Rainey drove in a run with a suicide squeeze for a 5-2 lead.

Camden Hills scored twice in the seventh and had runners in scoring position, but reliever Nick Mazurek struck out the final batter on four pitches.

Ryan Allender got the win. He struck out seven, walked one and gave up five hits. Connor Graffam of Camden Hills gave up five runs on six hits with no walks and nine strikeouts.

GREELY 12, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 3: Will Bryant hit a two-run single in the first inning and Chas Reade a two-run single in the second as the Rangers scored four times in each of the first two innings in an opener at Cumberland.

Connor Russell pitched the first four innings for Greely, striking out seven, and allowing two hits and no walks.

POLAND 17, KENNEBUNK 7: Kaleb Bridgham’s three-run homer capped a 10-run seventh inning as Poland broke away from a 7-7 tie in an opener at Kennebunk.

Matt Rabasco had a two-run double for the Knights in the seventh, and C.J. Martin and Corey Cunliffe added two-run singles.

POLAND 9, KENNEBUNK 4: Kelsey DeBurra’s two-run single to center in the first inning gave Poland a quick 2-0 lead in an opener at Kennebunk.

The Knights added single runs in the second and fourth before opening the lead to 8-0 with a four-run fifth keyed by Emily Gibson’s two-run double.

OCEANSIDE 7, CAMDEN HILLS 3: Brooke Dugan’s three-run homer in the sixth inning highlighted a three-hit, four-RBI performance for the Mariners in an opener at Rockland.

Oceanside took a 4-3 lead in the fifth on consecutive two-out doubles by Alexis Davis and Kaylan Grover.

SANFORD 10, MASSABESIC 5: Jordan Wilson had a homer and drove home three runs, and Abigail Blouin also drove home three runs to lead the Spartans in an opener at Sanford.

GREELY 3, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 2: Emily Buchanan singled home Elyse Dinan with the tying run, and pinch-runner Lexi Faietta got the winner on Kayley Cimino’s bunt as the Rangers scored twice in the seventh inning to win an opener at Fryeburg.
