Hopkins leads Westbrook to field-hockey semifinals

From staff report

WESTBROOK – Maybe Sarah Hopkins should take up horse training. She certainly knows how to break a group of Mustangs.

Hopkins, a Westbrook High senior, scored the lone goal of Wednesday’s Western A field hockey game with 16:14 to play to give the Blue Blazes a 1-0 win over the No. 5 Massabesic Mustangs.

In the regular-season meeting in Waterboro, Hopkins scored both Westbrook goals in a 2-1 win that essentially was the difference between Wednesday’s game being played at Westbrook’s fast natural grass field.

No. 4 Westbrook (11-2-2) advances to Saturday’s regional semifinal either at No. 1 Scarborough or hosting No. 8 Thornton Academy. Massabesic finishes with a 10-4-1 record.
