Maine Colleges: Black Bears complete weekend sweep of UMass

UMaine scores six second-period goals on its way to an 8-4 win.

WILLIAMS 3, BATES 0: Kristi Kirshe scored in the 15th minute and the Ephs (9-2-2, 6-2-1 NESCAC) added a pair of insurance goals midway through the second half against the Bobcats (4-8-1, 1-7-1) at Williamstown, Mass.


BOWDOIN 4, COLBY 1: Zach Danssaert scored one goal and assisted on two others, and the Polar Bears (8-2-3, 5-2-2 NESCAC) produced three second-half goals against the Mules (4-9, 0-9) at Brunswick.

Ben Brewster added a goal and an assist. Matt Dias Costa and Sam White also scored.

Colby tied the game at 1-1 in the 23rd minute on a goal by Keith Chernin.

WILLIAMS 1, BATES 0: Jonathan Westling scored in the 31st minute and the Ephs (9-4, 6-3 NESCAC) held off the Bobcats (4-7-2, 0-7-2) at Williamstown, Mass.

ENDICOTT 3, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 0: Brion Likaj scored a pair of goals as the Gulls (9-8, 4-4 Commonwealth Coast) scored three times in the second half to beat the Nor’easters (6-8-3, 1-6-1) at Biddeford.

Aidan McParland finished with 10 saves for UNE.

LASELL 3, ST. JOSEPH’S 0: Mike Skelton collected two goals and an assist as the Lasers (12-3-1, 7-1-1 GNAC) scored three second-half goals to beat the Monks (10-7-1, 6-3) at Newton, Mass.

Scott Benner finished with four saves for the Monks.

RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Jose Zarraga scored a pair of goals for the Anchormen (7-5-4, 2-2-2 Little East) in a win over the Huskies (0-16-1, 0-6) at Providence, R.I.

Matthew Willis finished with four saves for USM.


SMCC 59, ST. THOMAS 52: Tong Akot had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Seawolves in a season-opening win at Auburn.

Jon Amabile chipped in 14 points and Scott Proudman had 11.
