AMHERST, Mass. — Katie Riley and Kimmie Ganong scored in the final seven minutes to send Bowdoin to a 4-2 win over Tufts in a New England Small College Athletic Conference field hockey semifinal Saturday afternoon.

Colleen Finnerty and Adrienne O’Donnell also scored, and Hannah Gartner made five saves for the third-seeded Polar Bears (14-2) against the reigning NCAA Division III champions.

Bowdoin will meet fourth-seeded Middlebury in Sunday’s championship game for the third year a row. Middlebury knocked off top-seeded Amherst, 1-0.

CASTLETON STATE 3, ST. JOSEPH’S 1: Kristy Pinkham and Blake Wardwell scored second-half goals to lead the top-seeded Spartans (14-6) past the second-seeded Monks (15-4) in the North Atlantic Conference championship game at Castleton, Vt.

Castleton State led 1-0 at the half on a goal by Stephanie Bardwell. Carley Denis tied it up with an assist from Theresa Hendrix at 44:19, but it took less than two minutes for Pinkham to give the lead back to the Spartans.

GORDON 3, UNE 1: Brittany Hawkins scored two goals to help the second-seeded Fighting Scots (17-5) defeat the top-seeded Nor’easters (15-6) in the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship game at Biddeford.

Hawkins scored 3:01 into the game after collecting a rebound off the goal post. The Nor’easters had a penalty stroke in the 26th minute, but Gordon goalie Anna Bury made the save.

Beth Sullivan netted the tying goal 10 minutes into the second half, but Gordon regained the lead three minutes later on a goal by Katherine Bailey. Hawkins added her second goal in the 64th minute.

MEN’S SOCCER

AMHERST 2, BOWDOIN 1: Justin Aoyama scored 6:23 into the second overtime to give the top-seeded Lord Jeffs (14-0-2) a win over the fifth-seeded Polar Bears (8-4-4) in a NESCAC semifinal at Amherst, Mass.

Amherst took the lead in the 17th minute when Ben Norton scored on a header off a cross from Nico Pascual-Leone. Matt Dias Cotsa got the equalizer in the 57th minute.

MEN’S HOCKEY

SOUTHERN MAINE 3, SKIDMORE 2: Ryan Seward scored the go-ahead power-play goal in the second period as the Huskies (1-1, 1-1 ECAC East) beat the Thoroughbreds (1-1, 1-1) at Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Kelby Lorenz and Cole Klippenstein.

Dylan Wells finished with 27 saves for the Huskies.

CASTLETON STATE 5, UNE 4: Bart Moran scored twice as the Spartans (3-0, 3-0 ECAC East) overcame an early 2-0 deficit to beat the Nor’easters (1-3-1, 0-3) at Rutland, Vt.

UNE got goals from David Goff and Ryan Quinn in the first two minutes of the game, but Castleton pulled even before the end of the first period and eventually took a 4-3 lead on Moran’s power-play goal at 13:04 of the second.

Blaise Healy and Jared Melman each had a goal and an assist for UNE, and Ian Edwards made 33 saves.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

UNE 2, NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 1: Gabby Crugnale scored at 5:48 of the third to give the Nor’easters (2-2-1) the edge over the Pilgrims (0-3) at Biddeford.

New England College’s Tori Polehonka tied the game at 3:17, before Crugnale stuffed in a rebound of Melissa Boudreau’s shot for the winner.

Shannon Smith scored in the first period for UNE.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY 5, MAINE 1: Maddie Elia had two goals and two assists to lead the Terriers (8-1-1, 5-0 Hockey East) past the visiting Black Bears (0-6-3, 0-2-3).

Brianne Kilgour scored for Maine, with an assist from Jillian Langtry.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

SMCC 77, NAVY PREP 66: Jose Nouchanthavong had 22 points and seven rebounds, and the Seawolves (5-0) outlasted the Rams at South Portland.

Atencio Martin added 18 points and seven rebounds off the bench for Southern Maine C.C., which trailed 36-33 at halftime.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

SMCC 85, NAVY PREP 68: Nyalieb Deng had 12 points, 15 rebounds and six assists, pacing the Seawolves (2-1) to a win over the Rams at South Portland.

Esther Palmieri added 19 points and five assists, and Chandler Waterman contributed 12 points, six rebounds and six assists.
