STANDISH — Rae-Marie Copan threw a five-hitter to lead top-seeded St. Joseph’s to a 4-1 victory over No. 3 Simmons in the championship game of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball tournament at Bailey Field on Sunday night.

It’s the fourth straight GNAC title for the Monks (33-4), who scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Carla Tripp and an RBI single by Mariah Harrison.

After a run by Simmons (27-10) in the bottom of the inning, Jennifer Murphy hit a two-run double in the fifth.

The Monks advanced to the title game with a 4-0 win over second-seeded Johnson & Wales (27-10) earlier Sunday. Copan also earned the win in that game, tossing a six-hitter with three strikeouts and no walks.

The Monks started the scoring with two runs in the fourth. Lindsay Moore and Danica Gleason led off with doubles, and Theresa Hendrix later scored on a groundout.

Kim Jordan added an RBI double in the fifth and Hendrix scored on an error in the sixth.

MAINE 3, BINGHAMTON 2: EmJ Fogel hit a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the 10th to lift the Black Bears (17-17, 8-9 America East) over the Bearcats (20-21, 9-5).

Trailing 2-1, Maine rallied to tie it in the sixth, when Felicia Lennon led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on Fogel’s groundout to third.

Hannah Hill gave up a run on eight hits while striking out eight and walking one in eight innings of relief to earn the win.

BOWDOIN SWEEPS BATES: Adriane Krul hit two doubles, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead the Polar Bears (22-12, 8-4 NESCAC) to a 7-3 win over the Bobcats (8-20, 2-10) in the opener of a doubleheader at Lewiston.

Bowdoin completed the sweep with an 8-0, five-inning win in Game 2 behind a three-hitter from Melissa DellaTorre, who struck out nine and walked none.

Hanna Wurgaft hit a three-run homer for the Polar Bears and Marisa O’Toole added a solo shot.

TUFTS 5, BOWDOIN 0: Allyson Fournier struck out 12 in a four-hitter and Jo Clair had three hits with two RBI and two runs scored for the Jumbos (32-3, 12-0 NESCAC) as the Polar Bears opened a three-game day with a loss at Brunswick.

Nicole Nelson, Katie Gately, Hanna Wurgaft and Marisa O’Toole each had a hit for Bowdoin.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT SWEEPS USM: Stefanie Stockwell gave up one earned run and struck out three in a two-hitter for the Huskies (14-21, 2-12 Little East) as they fell 3-0 to the Warriors (25-11, 11-3) in the second game of a doubleheader at Gorham.

The Huskies loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh before Erin Miller came in for the Warriors and got a flyout to left to close it.

In the opener, Eastern Connecticut cruised to an 11-0, five-inning win behind a three-hitter by Miller and three RBI from Alicia White.

NYIT 3, MAINE 2: Nick Sebastian singled and scored the go-ahead run on an error in the top of the ninth as NYIT (4-36) beat the Black Bears (17-23) to avoid a four-game weekend sweep at Orono.

In the bottom of the ninth, pinch runner Sam Balzano advanced to third on a two-out pinch single by Steven Adam but was stranded when Jake Osborne struck out.

Osborne and Scott Heath had two hits apiece for the Black Bears. Osborne and Alex Calbick each drove in a run.

BATES, COLBY SPLIT: Samuel Warren hit a two-run homer and finished with three RBI, Dean Bonneau finished the game with 31/3 scoreless innings, and the Bobcats (18-12, 6-4 NESCAC) clinched their first conference tournament berth with a 6-2 win over Colby (15-11, 5-7) in the second game of a doubleheader at Waterville.

Mekae Hyde and Nate Pajka hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth to give Bates a 4-1 lead.

In the opener, Nils Carlson hit a pinch RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh to lift Colby to a 2-1 victory.

TUFTS SWEEPS BOWDOIN: Wade Hauser and Nick Cutsumpas had two hits and two RBI apiece to lead the Jumbos (27-3, 8-2 NESCAC) to a 5-1 win over the Polar Bears (17-13-1, 5-7) in the first game of a doubleheader at Brunswick.

Bowdoin scored its run on a single by Sean Mullaney in the fifth inning that cut the deficit to 4-1.

Tufts finished the sweep with a 14-0 win in Game 2 behind three hits, three RBI and two runs scored from Cody McCallum.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC SWEEPS NASHUA CC: Alex Brown went 3 for 4 with an inside-the-park home run, a triple and six RBI to lead the Seawolves (18-17) to a 12-1, five-inning win over the Jaguars in the first game of a doubleheader at South Portland.

In Game 2, SMCC pitchers combined to strike out 10 while throwing a five-hitter for a 5-0 victory.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

USM 15, RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 8: Rosie Forster scored five goals to pace the Huskies (7-8, 3-3 Little East), who clinched the fourth seed in the conference tournament with a win over the Anchorwomen (7-8, 3-3) at Providence, R.I.

Jacki Kelly added four goals and Lauren Lessard had two for USM.

The Huskies will host fifth-seeded Eastern Connecticut State in the opening round Tuesday.
