ORONO — Devin Shore scored a power-play goal from Brice O’Connor and Josh Henke just 19 seconds into overtime to lift Maine over the University of New Brunswick 4-3 in an exhibition hockey game Tuesday.

Trailing 3-0 after one period, the Black Bears cut the deficit to 3-2 on goals by Brady Campbell and Stu Higgins during a four-minute stretch early in the second period.

Ryan Lomberg added the equalizer for the Black Bears with 6:07 left in regulation.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

BATES 79, HUSSON 58: Graham Safford scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures for the Bobcats (9-6) as they handed the Eagles (13-1) their first loss of the season at Bangor.

Luke Matarazzo added 14 points and five assists for the Bobcats, who closed on a 40-18 run over the final 13 minutes of regulation.

Husson was led by Brooks Spaulding with 14 points and six rebounds.

 

PLYMOUTH ST. 73, USM 69: Pete Skevas scored the final six points for the Panthers (9-7, 3-3 Little East), who pulled away from a 67-all tie in the final two minutes against the Huskies (5-11, 1-5) at Gorham.

Skevas finished with 13 points to lead five double-digit scorers for Plymouth State.

Conor Sullivan scored a career-high 30 points for Southern Maine. Jacob Littlefield added 15.

COLBY 79, THOMAS 63: Chris Hudnut scored 22 of his team-high 25 points in the second half to lead the host Mules (8-7) over the rival Terriers (5-9).

Connor O’Neil and Sam Wilson each added 11 points.

Garen Manzo had a game-high 27 points for Thomas.

 

BOWDOIN 82, UM-PRESQUE ISLE 51: John Swords had 20 points and 13 boards to lead the 22nd-ranked Polar Bears (14-1) over the Owls (7-7) in Brunswick.

Lucas Hausman and Matt Mathias each had 11 points to help round out five Bowdoin double-digit scorers.

Chase Vicaire led Presque Isle with 14 points.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

COLBY 54, HUSSON 45: Desi Smith scored a game-high 15 points and also grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Mules (6-11) over the Eagles (6-7) at Waterville.

Colby started slow, missing its first 10 field-goal attempts before rallying to build a 27-19 halftime lead.

Trailing by as many as 12 points, Husson cut the deficit to four with 8:25 left in the game. Colby responded with an 11-2 surge to put the game out of reach.

Carylanne Wolfington added 11 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Mules.

Husson was led by Kathryn Brochu with eight points and eight rebounds.

 

USM 68, PLYMOUTH ST. 31: Megan Pelletier scored 18 points to lead the Huskies (10-6, 3-3 Little East) past the Panthers (2-12, 1-5) at Gorham.

Gretchen Anderson tossed in 14 points for Southern Maine.
