BIDDEFORD — Colby Drost made 41 saves Saturday, saving the game for the University of New England in a 3-1 victory against Babson in an ECAC East men’s hockey game.

After Mike Vollmin put Babson (9-2, 5-1) ahead midway through the first, Blaise Healy’s power-play goal pulled UNE (4-7-1, 2-5) even with 29 seconds left in the period. Jared Melman scored the go-ahead goal at 10:03 of the second and Chris Healy added an empty-netter with 2:32 left in the third.

UMASS-BOSTON 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: Michael Kuhn scored the tying and go-ahead goals in the second period to lift UMass-Boston (6-1-2, 3-1-2 Little East) over the Huskies (4-5, 3-4) at Gorham.

Kelby Lorenz had given Southern Maine a 2-1 lead 7:18 into the second period after Cole Klippenstein scored for USM and Travis Daniel for the Beacons in the first period.

Kuhn tied it at 11:30 before scoring an unassisted goal with 26 seconds left in the period for a 3-2 lead.

COLBY 4, CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 3: Nick Lanza scored from Ben Chwick on a breakaway at 3:24 of overtime to lift Colby (4-3-2, 2-3-1 NESCAC) over Connecticut College (1-8, 1-5) at Waterville.

Chwick scored twice for Colby, which had leads of 2-0 and 3-1 but saw Mike Sinsigalli of the Camels make it 3-3 with 7:04 left in regulation.

Jack Bartlett also scored for the Mules.

BOWDOIN 8, TUFTS 4: Colin Downey had two goals and an assist, John McGinnis had a goal and three assists and the Polar Bears (5-3-1) powered past the Jumbos (2-7) at Brunswick.

Tufts took a 3-2 lead on a goal by Conal Lynch at 7:02 of the second, but Downey answered 10 seconds later, sparking a run of three goals in just over two minutes for Bowdoin. Tim Coffey put the Polar Bears ahead at 7:56 and Jay Livermore scored at 9:17.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

BROWN 3, MAINE 3: Kelly McDonald scored the tying goal with 1:22 remaining and the Black Bears (1-12-5) rallied from a 3-0 deficit to even up the Bears (1-9-3) at Orono.

McDonald assisted Brittany Huneke’s power-play goal that started Maine’s scoring with 1:49 left in the second period. Audra Richards got the Black Bears within one with 4:01 to play.

USM 5, COLBY 3: Talya Bent and Erin Banfield each scored twice, leading the Huskies (6-3) past the Mules (3-4-1) at Gorham.

Chelsea Boucher added a goal and an assist, and Julia Pearl had two assists for Southern Maine, which led 2-1 after two periods, then added two goals in the first seven minutes of the third.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

BOWDOIN 82, COLBY 64: Andrew Madlinger scored 16 of his 28 points in the first half to lead Bowdoin (7-0) to a 38-30 halftime lead over the Mules (4-3) in Waterville.

Madlinger was 5 of 5 and made all four of his 3-point attempts before he finally missed just before halftime.

The Polar Bears pulled steadily away in the second half, opening a 20-point margin at 58-38 with 13:12 to play. Colby never got closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

WESTERN CONNECTICUT 86, USM 76: Jeremiah Washington scored 16 points and the Colonials (7-2, 1-0 Little East) shot 10 of 19 from 3-point range in defeating the Huskies (4-4, 1-1) at Gorham.

Tyler Penney led five double-digit scorers for Southern Maine with 20 points and nine rebounds. The Huskies also got 15 points from Cole Libby, 14 from Kyle Pluchino, 11 from Conor Sullivan and 10 from James Odneal.

ST. JOSEPH’S 96, RIVIER 87: Matt Medeiros scored four points in the second overtime, capping a 29-point game at Nashua, N.H., that led St. Joseph’s (4-4, 3-0 GNAC) past Rivier (3-4, 0-2) and also lifted Medeiros over 1,000 points for his career.

Jerome Diggs also scored four in the second overtime, during which the Monks outscored Rivier, 12-3.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 66, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 62: Devin Thompson scored 21 points to help the Nor’easters (1-6, 1-1 Commonwealth Coast) beat Western New England (2-6, 0-2) at Biddeford.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

USM 67, WESTERN CONNECTICUT 31: Rebecca Knight had 18 points and nine rebounds as the Huskies (5-3, 1-1 Little East) rolled past the Colonials (4-3, 0-1) at Gorham.

Erin McNamara added 12 points for Southern Maine, which spread its scoring among 12 players.

BOWDOIN 83, COLBY 69: Reserve Selena Lorrey tied a school record with six three-pointers as Bowdoin (7-0) dominated the Mules (3-6) in the second half at Waterville.

BATES 104, UM-AUGUSTA 83: Meredith Kelly scored a school-record 42 points to lead the Bobcats (6-4) past the Moose (4-6) in the consolation game of the Ed Hockenbury Classic at Norwich University in Northfield, Vt.

MAINE 60, BROWN 59: Sigi Koizar made a tying layup with 1:03 to go, then shot the go-ahead free throw with two seconds remaining as the Black Bears (5-2) edged the Bears (4-4) at Providence, R.I.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 72, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 42: Kelly Coleman scored seven points and Lauren Hayden five as the Nor’easters (6-1, 2-0 Commonwealth Coast) opened a 17-0 lead while cruising over Western New England (4-4, 1-1) in Biddeford.
