GORHAM — Nik Ververis hit a three-run homer and Brendan Lynch also had three RBI as Eastern Connecticut State University completed a doubleheader sweep and clinched first place in the Little East Conference baseball standings with an 8-4 win over Southern Maine on Friday afternoon.

The Huskies (28-10, 11-3) needed to win one of the two games to lock up first place, but dropped a 15-9 decision to the Warriors (27-7, 11-3) in Game 1, when Eastern Connecticut took a 12-1 lead in the first three innings.

Matt Verrier drove in five runs in the opener and Jake Glauser drove in two in the late game for Southern Maine, which finishes as the No. 2 seed for the upcoming conference tournament.

COLBY 4, LASELL 2: Jason Buco hit a three-run homer in the first inning and the Mules (16-13) held off the Lasers (18-13) at Waltham, Massachusetts.

Scott Goldberg gave up two runs on six hits while striking out five and walking two in six innings to earn the win.

BRIDGTON ACADEMY 2, SMCC 0: Southern Maine CC starter Dylan Morrow struck out five in a five-hitter and Owen Kimmel had the lone hit for the Seawolves as they fell to the Wolverines at Bridgton in Game 1 of the best-of-three 302 Cup series.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

KEENE STATE 13, USM 9: Kelly Chadnick scored four times, and the top-seeded Owls (13-4) scored the first four goals of the second half to pull away from the fourth-seeded Huskies (8-9) in a Little East Conference semifinal at Keene, New Hampshire.

Sarah Pelligrinelli scored three goals and Shelby Turcotte added two to pace the Huskies, who closed with a 5-1 run in the final 15 minutes.

SOFTBALL

CURRY 2, UNE 0: Kelly Duggan curled a two-run homer around the left field foul pole in the top of the second inning and the third-seeded Colonels (25-16) edged the No. 4 Nor’easters (23-17) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament elimination game at Beverly, Massachusetts.

UNE starter Abby Lambert scattered five hits and two walks in a complete game.

WILLIAMS 6, BOWDOIN 0: Ali Graebner hit a grand slam in the third inning, leading the Ephs (23-9) past the Polar Bears (24-13) in the opening game of the NESCAC tournament at Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Williams starter Emma Harrington yielded just four hits to Bowdoin, which awaits the loser of Saturday’s 10 a.m. game.

MAINE SPLITS WITH BRYANT: Hannah Hill threw a one-hitter and Maddie Moore hit a two-run homer to lead the Black Bears (18-19) to a 2-0 win in Game 2 after the Bulldogs (29-20) opened with a 7-1 victory in a doubleheader at Smithfield, Rhode Island.
