EUGENE, Ore. — Two Mainers competing Sunday at the Olympic trials failed to make the U.S. team.
Anna Pierce, a Greenwood native and Telstar High graduate, finished fifth in the women’s 1,500, in 4:07:78.
She needed to finish in the top three to make the team for the London Olympics.
Morgan Uceny won the race in 4 minutes, 4.59 seconds.
Shannon Rowbury was second in 4:05.11 and Jenny Simpson earned the third spot on the team in 4:05.17.
Meanwhile, Lauren Forgues of Boothbay finished sixth in the women’s 20,000-meter race walk.
Maria Michta won the event in 1:34:53.33 for the lone spot on the team in the event, because no one had achieved the “A’’ standard.
