Best Bets for outdoor events in Maine

THURSDAY

Invasive Plant Workshop

7 p.m. in Bangor

Come learn about invasive plants and the problems they can cause on your land. The Bangor Land Trust’s invasive species workshop will feature a presentation by Steve Sader, a University of Maine instructor on forest vegetation. He will discuss how some invasive species in the forest came to Maine, and he’ll have samples. The workshop will be at the Bangor Land Trust office at 8 Harlow St. For more information, call 942-1010.

SATURDAY

Guided Nordic Trek

1 p.m. in Woolwich

Join the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust for a Nordic skiing lesson. Come to the Merrymeeting Preserve in Woolwich for ski instruction and a group outing. Chuck Mainville, who runs a Nordic ski program for local families, will be on hand to lead cross country skiers throughout the 125-acre preserve. Gentle slopes and a variety of trail lengths make it easy here to learn and improve cross country skiing skills. To register for the event, call 442-8400 or write to bkolak@kennebecestuary.org by Wednesday.
