LEWISTON — Just when it appeared things couldn’t get worse for the Portland Pirates, they did as they blew a three-goal lead to lose at home for the third time in three days.

The Manchester Monarchs opened the third period with a flurry of three goals in a little more than two minutes to send the Pirates to a 7-4 loss before a matinee crowd of 1,860 at the Colisee.

The Pirates have won only six games in Lewiston, where crowds are the smallest in the 30-team American Hockey League, and none in eight attempts since New Year’s Eve.

Andy Miele moved up to 12th on the franchise scoring list with a goal and two assists Sunday at the Colisee, the scene of a 7-4 loss to St. John’s Friday night and a 7-1 shellacking by Binghamton Saturday night.

Saturday’s game set a franchise record for penalty minutes with 224. Three Pirates received game misconducts and three more received 10-minute misconducts.

On Sunday afternoon, the Pirates opened a 4-1 lead on goals by Chris Brown, Brandon McMillan, Miele and Tobias Rieder. Manchester followed with six unanswered goals.
