Justin Zukowski scored three touchdowns and Jayvon Pitts-Young added two as Portland thumped Massabesic, 45-14, in an opening game in Western Maine Class A football Friday night at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

The Bulldogs, under new coach Jim Hartman, broke away from a 14-14 halftime tie with 31 unanswered points in the second half.

Hartman coached Yarmouth to Class C state titles the last two seasons before taking over the Bulldogs. Massabesic had two long touchdowns called back in the opening quarter.
