Rally cars arrive for race at Sunday River resort

Rally cars feature a driver and navigator who race against the clock on dirt roads.

NEWRY — Rally cars have arrived in western Maine for an annual event featuring race-prepared cars zooming along unpaved roads.

The New England Forest Rally at Sunday River ski resort is the fifth race the RallyAmerica National Championship series. Racing will be held Friday and Saturday.

Rally cars feature a driver and navigator who race against the clock on dirt roads.

Most of the vehicles are modified all-wheel-drive production cars. Free to the public, the event draws thousands of spectators.
